COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A superb porter, hearty & dark. This one is a staff favorite, made with pale, crystal, Munich, chocolate, and black malts. The darker malts give Coal its color and rich flavor. We use Target and Willamette hops to yield a very subtle hop flavor in this porter. We cellar this beer for close to six months before releasing it on the thirsty throngs of fans.

Good roasted malt flavor, but the palate is a little bit thin. Just a little coffee. Drinkable enough. A decent session beer.

Looks like a dark chocolate brown. Nice finger of light brown head. Extremely dark with some light at the edges. Nutty, grainy malt aroma. Not bitter of burnt; no coffee. Has a sweet, semi-chocolatey aroma. Smells dry and a little roasted but not typical porter. Not strong but nice. Coffee increases as it warms. Chocolatey sweet flavor with a dry malt backbone. No new flavors, but balanced and nice enough. Nice tart aftertaste. Turns coffee-bitter toward the end with warmth. A bit ashy and chunky. Appropriate for style. Good body. A really nice, solid porter. Typical, but enjoyable.

Pours a deep brown, almost black. No head at all. Noticed no foam halfway through the pour so I made the second half of the pour very vigorous, and still no foam. Aroma of nice roasted malts. Taste is a bit smokey but not overpoweringly so. Bit of a nutty, choclatey taste too. Good stuff, not great.

Great look, nice head, good aroma, Great taste. Aftertaste tastes just like coal... seriously... coal. I guess they really did mean "coal" porter.

Definetly a coca-cola pour. Dark Magohongy color with LOTs of bubbles. Smells like a whopper, lots of milk chocolate plues a malted flavor as well. Lot less effervecent then you would expect Lot more smokey dark bitter chocolate

Courtesy of dkachur. Pours brown with copper edges and loose tan head. I couldn’t help but take a little slug of this from out of the bottle. First taste impression is yum yum yummy chocolate. A chocolate Porter? The aroma puts out a pleasing mix of chocolate, caramel with a bit of burnt malts and pine hops. This aroma reminds me of a very well aged Bigfoot. The taste is chocolate brownie with dark chocolate chips and with thin ribbons of caramel over the top. I also get a mild level of dark fruitiness that adds to the experience along with a bit of burnt malts around the outer rim of the tongue. I don’t know how this is a porter but the flavor is divine. Nice stuff!

Stopped in a bottle shop next to a gas station just down from the pizza place to grab my wife a four pack of Mike’s to have with her pizza and the proprieter showed me this big selection of a beer he was so proud of that he was selling at a huge discount. I picked up two six packs to see him smile and, well, found it to be very drinkable, something nice to have in the fridge, with just enough malt and chocolate, coffee and smoke to make it interesting to the bottom of the glass.

Thjs is a very good beer. Deep dark brown color with no head. Aroma of chocolate and roasted malts. Satisfying flavor of roasted malts with chocolate undertones. Some hop presence.

Pours a dark brown colro with small sudsy khaki head. Nose is mild but hints of roast and chocolate linger in the nose. Initial taste of roasted malt being the dominating character with chocolate. Mild hints of coffee and burnt/smokiness. Mild balancing resin hop. Above average palate duration and average head retention. Light body and dry finish.
