COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A superb porter, hearty & dark. This one is a staff favorite, made with pale, crystal, Munich, chocolate, and black malts. The darker malts give Coal its color and rich flavor. We use Target and Willamette hops to yield a very subtle hop flavor in this porter. We cellar this beer for close to six months before releasing it on the thirsty throngs of fans.

This porter pours out dark brown amber with a small fizzy head and some lacing remains on the glass. In the glass it is appears opaque black. Thin consistency in the mouth, caramel flavor with a carbonation bite and strange after taste that lingers that I can’t pinpoint. Decent porter. I enjoyed it.

Watery brown in color with red fleks. Nice tan head with good retention. Bit a smokey scent from the roasted malts. Full mouth feel and flavor. Tingles on the end of the tongue from carbonation. Bitter coffee comes through. Decent.

Poured a very dark brown with a thin off-white head. Aroma is slightly fruity with some cherries. Some yeast notes with caramel and chocolate. Taste is also suprisingly fruity with a slightly tart feeling. The taste transitions to a roasted malty flavor with nuts. Aftertaste is a little astringent with some hoppy notes. Interesting!

Nut, malt, and a little smoke in the aroma. Flavor starts sweet and malty. Roast , smoke, and coffee bitterness in the finish. Pretty good.

Fresh bottle from Maine trip. Serviceable porter. Pours deep dark brown with enormous foaming head. Tobacco aroma and taste. Overcarbonated.

Bottle. Pours a fairly deep brown with a light head. Malty aroma of chocolate and coffee. The flavor has similar chocolate and coffee notes, as well as a lot of roast flavors and some nuttiness. Finish is a little bit peppery, interestingly. The hops don’t come through that much. A bit lacking in complexity, but a solid porter nonetheless.

Good coffee, chocolate, and nut flavors. Creamy texture without being too heavy. One of their better offerings.

Gift from SJ. A decent porter. Nothing new here, but it does follow the tradition of good roast, chocolate, coffee and nut flavors that I’ve learned to enjoy in my porters.

12oz bottle in a plastic cup. Pours very dark brown with a lacy, beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, dark chocolate, a little smokiness, and some bitter and floral hops. Flavor about the same, pretty good for a porter. Average texture. A good porter.
