COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A superb porter, hearty & dark. This one is a staff favorite, made with pale, crystal, Munich, chocolate, and black malts. The darker malts give Coal its color and rich flavor. We use Target and Willamette hops to yield a very subtle hop flavor in this porter. We cellar this beer for close to six months before releasing it on the thirsty throngs of fans.

A thick and velvetty looking beer as it pours. Rich brown looking quite like a brown stout(you heard it here first). Small unassuming head fading fast to just a color about the glass. Some lacing on the glass too. Rich roasted malt aromas with some coffee and bittersweet chocolate. Smells good. A rich and smooth beer with a rich roasted malt taste. Espresso and dark chocolates mingle with the malts well giving good tasting layer affect. The ending finds a semi dry bitter and slightly gritty finish. Good drinking beer but I thought the beer drank a bit thin and washed out, lacks something to hold on to.

BillKismet (2749) - Seattle, Washington, USA - MAY 6, 2012
Cool colored body, some cola-like carbonation and an adequate enough head. Mildly roasty with a chocolate underpinning, not much hoping, but still feels balanced. The body likewise is balanced with a simple roastiness with thin tendrils of smoke and a shallow layer of chocolate. Altogether sessionable.

12oz bottle. Medium brown pour, no carbonation. aroma is off-putting... Skunky yeast, some roasted malt. Thin, watery subtle smokiness, roasted malt, some bitterness. I think this is old. The unfilled expiration date gives no hint, but it only goes up to 2010... Not a good sign. Could be decent if it were fresh.

a very good, extremely easy to drink porter. Sometimes porters can be a little tough on the palate, either overly carbonated, a little too roasty like black coffee, and no hop balance, but this is the exact opposite. so smooth, not thick but not thin, nice roasty malt flavor with just a hint of hoppiness at the end. really good.

Pours deep brown with an off white head. Aroma its dark chocolate, roasty and a hint of charcoal smoke. Taste is sweet with smokey muted bitters. Light and thin mouthfeel.

Chocolate and coffee scents are present but not profound. Taste is malt balanced with a little bitterness from hops. Consistency is too thin and soft. Bottled, probably much better on tap.

12oz bottle. Pours deep dark brown with a slight tan head. Did not detect any coal but there were hints of coffee and dark chocolate. A bit on the thin side but overall not bad.

Sample at the brewery. Roasted coffee aroma, deep brown colour, lighter body than light be expected. A sessionable porter? A fine brew and a serviceable porter, but nothing too exciting.

Brown colored body with a bubbly and light brown/grey head. Aroma is a combination of cocoa, coffee, smoke and a hint of chicory. Chocolate is predominant in taste but foral hops and smoke accents drive through your mouth. The oily texture is a joy for your tongue. Great beer.

First good porter in awhile on draft at the brewery. Poured a dark brown. The aroma was nutty and mild chocolate. Flavor was chocolate and molasses little nuttiness . Mouthfeel was very well balanced.
