3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 hockeybeerguy (212) - Portland, Maine, USA - FEB 7, 2013It poured a nice jet black in color with a nice frothy head. The smell had some cocoa, chocolate, and coffee tones to it with a decent amount of roast to it. The taste is pretty balanced with the noted smells. A good finish somewhat sweet and roasty. The palate was creamy and had a medium body to it. I would have this again.

Pours a crystal clear dark brown with faint garnet highlights at the edges and a smallish tan head that quickly dissipates. Smells of caramel, cocoa, milk chocolate, and hints of roasted coffee. Light earthy hop and an almost creamy sweet aroma comes through. The flavor is like coffee milk. Sweet roasty milk chocolate and caramel with hints of sweet cream. Little to no hop flavor. Medium body with a sweet silky mouthfeel and a light level of carbonation. Decent porter and certainly miles ahead of that "ipa". I enjoyed it and would have it again.

Bottle at home via trade. Pour is deep brown, almost black with a frothy tan head and great lacing. Roast, coffee, light vanilla, toffee, somewhat hoppy, caramelly, and bready aroma. Taste is also roasty, slightly chocolatey, somewhat muted vanilla, sweet malt., nutty, toffee, piney, and biscuit with a semi-toasted finish. Light body with medium carbonation. Not bad and definitely sessionable, but could really benefit from a little more body and more robust flavors.

On draft at The Pony Bar. A really good malty, smoky porter. Good name too! It is nicely balanced, with a little astringency. The aroma grows nice as it warms.

Dark with a tan head that overflowed and took forever to settle. Roasty malt, smooth throught the finish. Fuller than most porters.

Average, but nice. Roasted aroma and flavors. Dry finish. Not too exciting. Would like a little more flavor. Clean and fairly light bodied.

This porter pours out dark brown amber with a small fizzy head and some lacing remains on the glass. In the glass it is appears opaque black. Thin consistency in the mouth, caramel flavor with a carbonation bite and strange after taste that lingers that I can’t pinpoint. Decent porter. I enjoyed it.
