COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A superb porter, hearty & dark. This one is a staff favorite, made with pale, crystal, Munich, chocolate, and black malts. The darker malts give Coal its color and rich flavor. We use Target and Willamette hops to yield a very subtle hop flavor in this porter. We cellar this beer for close to six months before releasing it on the thirsty throngs of fans.

From bottle... poured light copperish brown with medium tan head. This didn’t start off well. The aroma... I can tell there’s a chocolate aroma way back there, but I was more overwhelmed by the smell of ortting leftovers in the fridge. This aroma was terrible. Flavor wasn’t anything special either... a bit roasty with more pronounced bitterness. But it was quite watery. Not much body to this, and not much to be excited about. I didn’t enjoy this.

Bottle to pint glass at 51 Lincoln, Newton, MA. Aroma is toasted barley, oatmeal,. Taste is chalky, but Smokey sweet. Coffee, oatmeal, touch of salt. Appearance is thick black, off white head is larger than most. Lively carbonation. Almost a stout. Great beer.

Bottle sample at the last tasting at Beer Market Jaffa. Thanks Alexey. Pours brown with a huge head, aroma of apples, chocolate, banana, flavor of apples, banana, oxidation, strong carbonation, light bodied.

Brown, clear color, head explodes in the glass, Hiroshima-style, filling it completely, top to bottom with a tan, lasting foam. Intense, yeasty nose. Medium body, moderate flavor, assertive mouthfeel, low heat but not flat, good balance, lingering palate. Bitter, mildly sweet background, high but not excessive acidity. Roast flavors, yeasty, Quite pleasant, never exiting but it grows on you. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle sample at the last tasting at Beer Market Jaffa. Thanks Alexey. Dark brown to black with a tan head. Aroma of roast, licorice and mild fruitiness. Bittersweetish flavor with roast, mild fruitiness and a bit of coffee. Medium-bodied, quite over-carbonated.

A dark crimson body with a tan head that had good retention. Aroma had nice roasted malts and a bit of chocolate. Some mild toasted cereal malts. Flavor was nice. A well balanced blend of roasted malts and chocolate. There was a sense of molasses in the finish. Beer seemed overly carbonated for the style. Not a great porter but not terrible either. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

First taste of beer after lengthy hiatus, fresh draught poured dark with quickly dissipating foam. Roast goodness.

Pours black with a huge, frothy, tan head that stays around a minute or two. Sparse lacing. Nose is a bit cola-like with a metallic hint and perhaps a note of chocolate. Taste is slightly, and pleasantly, to the bitter side, but that metallic quality comes through also. A but thin for me, lively carbonation. Decent brew, but not a favorite porter. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft. Pours black with thin creme head. Light carbonation. Thinner than it looks. Tasty porter ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
