Reviewed from notes. The appearance was a dark brown body with a finger of tan foamy head, no lacing. The smell was smoky/ roasty through light coffee, light chocolate, and malts. The taste was mostly sweet, eventually gets some bitter qualities through previously mentioned flavors. On the palate, it sat about a medium on the body, was pretty smooth, sessionable, bitter yet somewhat sweet aftertaste and finish. Overall, this was a pretty good Scottish ale Id probably have again.

On draft at City Swiggers. A malty, lightly smoky & bitter Scot, pretty dry for the style. Solid, but unspectacular.

TATE (265) - Lubec, Maine, USA - OCT 11, 2013
Bottle. Pours a murky dark brown with a thin tan head. Molasses aroma. Big malt flavor up from with a slight hop bite but most of the bitterness is from what appears to be roasted malt. There is a smokiness as well and the alcohol is noticeable. Overall a good beer and true to style.

Bottle. Different label than pictured here, with an ABV of just 7%, but the description fits. Dark brown, but not opaque, with golden amber highlights and a creamy light golden head. Aroma is sweet dark caramel and brothy malts. The palate has a nice peaty character that I did not find in the nose. Nothing that translates as heather, but nice fruity accents, light roast too. Tasty beverage.

On tap at Mainely Meats right next to the brewery. Pours a hazed ruby tinged brown with a thin to medium sized beiged yellow head. Soft smoke and hay on the nose. Big toast and soft malt. Warm alcohol, faint smoke. Warm and toasty, gentle malt. Toasty with a soft bitterness into the finish. Don’t really get the heather in here.

22oz bottle in a thistle. Pours dark brown with a lacy, tan head. Aroma of roasted and nutty malts plus some dough and caramel and floral hops. Flavor the same with a nice, slightly smoky finish. Average texture. A pretty good Scotch ale.

22 oz. bottle from Hampton Falls Village Market for $4.99. Nice price! Aroma is sweet with molasses, and light smokiness. The flavor is mildly sweet caramel malt, light fruits, light peated malt, and a touch of smoke. This needs a bit more carbonation. Kind of a flat mouthfeel. Overall, decent scotch ale. I would drink this again.

Bottle. Pours very dark brown with almost no head and no lacing. Smells of faint woody smoke and earthy basement aromas nicely reminiscent of an old summer house on Long Island. It has a hint of sweetness, average carbonation, medium body and a slightly smoky finish. A pretty good brew.

A - Pours a dark mahogany brown. Thick tan head that leaves rings of lacing. S - Smokey malt with hints of perfume and vanilla. Alcohol vapors come through as it warms. T - Roasted malt that is both earthy and smokey. Black walnuts, muted wild flowers, and sweet oak. Finishes dry. This is mellow but complex at the same time. Creamy with low carbonation. One of the more drinkable Scottish ales I’ve had. Serving type: bottle 10-05-2010

From a bottle poured a dark brown color with a small amount of head. Bitter malty flavor with a lingering finish.
