3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Pawola22 (3101) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - AUG 10, 2012
On tap at the brewpub. Pours a cloudy, amber-copper colored body with a finger-width, creamy, beige head that dissipates slowly and leaves a light lacing. Aroma has a good amount of plum up front with some Belgian yeast giving off notes of banana and clove. Somewhat grainy, bready, pale malt backing with a touch of toast. Flavor is similar. Thinner feeling plums and grainy malts up front before a slight breadiness comes in and Belgian yeast phenols. The banana and clove picks it up slightly towards the end as does the plum before this finishes pretty clean with a touch of toast and a very light bitterness. Medium length aftertaste following a thinner body and a moderate carbonation. Overall, this wasn’t bad, but it left a lot to be desired for me. I know its lighter in ABV%, but it was pretty thin and unremarkable. Eh...
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 drewbeerme (3645) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - AUG 7, 2012
Pours mahogany with off white head. Aroma has red apple, juicy red
plum, with hint of spice (the menu listed lychee and that is spot on
why didn’t I think o that) Flavors has hint o peat, toffee, plums,
raisin, touch green apple in the finish with spicy yeast profile that
finishes. Thin body, easy drinking, this could work well with food.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 NobleSquirrel (3286) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JUL 23, 2012
Draft at Atlas. Pours a somewhat clear reddish amber with a frothy white head. The nose shows some persistent fruitness and a spicy yeast derived phenolic profile. Pretty clean, but the cloves are out of place. On tasting, light bodied, pretty dry with a taste of candied fruit. More of the peppery notes that keep it from really being stellar. Rein in the yeast and you’ll have a winner.
3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 deyholla (4787) - Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA - JUL 21, 2012
On tap at the brewpub. Pours a deep amber with a tan head that dissipates comeyely. Aroma has a deep grain note with a hint of toast and a good amount of dark fruit, especially plum. Flavor has notes of bread and toast up front with only a hint of underlying dark fruit.
