COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our brown ale offers fruity, floral and spicy notes, both from the hefty dose of rye included in the beer and the English and German noble hops that we added. Moderately bitter with a smooth, dry finish.

4 oz. taster at Atlas. Nut brown color, retaining some thin foam. Its smell does remind me of the old Goose Island Hex Nut Brown. There is some spiciness in the taste which I can partly lay to the style being followed, with just a bit of malt spice coming from the rye. But this is generally a milder style, though this examples kicks it up just slightly.

Sampler pour on tap at the brewpub (Chicago, IL). My first stop in saw 10 drafts. This was one. Pours a richer deep brownish pour, well hazed and darkness into the body. A touch of a copper glow on the edges but not much. Small frothy tannish head settles as a small layer, laces ok. Aromas are mellow bready and biscuity malts, touches of rye bread, gentle florals and earthy hops. Kiss of spice, with gentle sweetness and some mellow kisses of brown malt (not like a typical Brown Ale). Mellow aromas overall. Initial is a bit sweet and rye slanted, toast and dryness. Biscuits, vanilla, rye. Bready malts, caramel, gentle earthy hops. Middle shows toast and rye, kiss of black olive, some yeast, and gentle girthy sweet malts. Backend is a bit more mellow dryness growing into firm dryness, toast and biscuits, some gentle spice. Mellow finish. A touch of darkness, almost some heat into the backend. Another odd one for me.

Draft at Atlas. Pours a deep reddish brown, touch of butter in the nose and caramel. Some grassy hops as well. Hint of graininess. On tasting, there is initially some butterscotch, followed by crystal malt. Rye seems to add a drying graininess. Grassy hop finish. Not a bad beer but the yeast health is in question, IMO. Okay.

Another new one at atlas bar. Grapefruit, rye, earthy and mild citrus flavor. Slightly bitter and dry. Smooth drinking beer. Dark amber almost brown pour with hardly any head ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
