Nimbus Strong Pale Ale (5.0% abv) resembles the famous Kölsch beers of Cologne: pale in colour, soft in mouthfeel, but strong in alcoholic content. Our rendition has a rich, warming hop and a memorable malt character.
A small addition of around 5% malted wheat to the grist gives this beer much of its body and softness.
The aroma is of pronounced fresh-fruit hops, together with a sweet nuttiness. On the palate this beer has a verdant, almost vegetal, hop presence. Nimbus also exhibits lovely malt character of fresh bread and almonds.
This beer has understated power: delicate, complex and more-ish despite its relative alcoholic strength.

Crystal clear golden colour with a lasting fine fluffy head; good lacings. On the nose subtle aromas of wheat, floral citrus notes and hints of barnyard arise. On the palate the beer offer at first a light lively texture which fades quickly into a palate coating velvetness. Flavours of floral citrus hops are subtley lingerin gon the palate. Medium bodied with a short-medium well balanced finish. Good session beer!

500 ml bottle, sainsburys. Not as nice as I remember it from the last time I drank this, though still a fine beer. Slightly over bitter this time making it a little less refreshing.

500 ml bottle from B&M. Served cold in a shaker. I suspect Orkney beers have to be at their freshest to be fully appreciated. This was well within its sell-by date, but was hazy, smelled skunky and didn’t refresh. B&M have had this and the Wayfarer IPA from the same brewery on sale at 99p a bottle. I had the Wayfarer from Sainsbury’s last September, and was hugely impressed. The bottles I’ve had from B&M, not so much. Both beers developed a mighty protein haze on cooling, and had an aging aroma. So, rate as I find, but suspect this might not be the brew in peak condition.

Bottle from B&M Bargains; clear golden pour with thin white head, lemon and skunk aroma, sweet taste with a hint of citrus but mostly weird skunkiness. Not good.

"A blonde beer. Wheat malt, barely malt and three different hops gives a rich, soft mouthfeel and its crisp hop character. The aroma is of pronounced fresh-fruit hops, with a sweet nuttiness. The palate has a verdant, almost vegetal, hop presence. It has a malt character of fresh bread and almonds." A hoppy fruity aroma, crisp hoppy taste, rich mouthfeel, but gassy.

Bottle. Creamy white good mostly lasting head. Yellow colour. Light malty and hoppy aroma. Light bitter strange flavor. Average light bitter finish. Oily palate.

Greatest draw back is lack of head and appearance when poured into glass. Lots of well bodied taste with bitterness at end (a lot like a woman)
