Commercial Description:
Cask: Regular.
NOTE: Only ratings for the cask version here. The bottled version is pasteurised and has a spearate entry.
Nimbus Strong Pale Ale (5.0% abv) resembles the famous Kölsch beers of Cologne: pale in colour, soft in mouthfeel, but strong in alcoholic content. Our rendition has a rich, warming hop and a memorable malt character.
A small addition of around 5% malted wheat to the grist gives this beer much of its body and softness.
The aroma is of pronounced fresh-fruit hops, together with a sweet nuttiness. On the palate this beer has a verdant, almost vegetal, hop presence. Nimbus also exhibits lovely malt character of fresh bread and almonds.
This beer has understated power: delicate, complex and more-ish despite its relative alcoholic strength.

Cask, Aikmans Cellar Bar, St Andrews. Golden with a thin off-white head. Quite hoppy on the nose with some citrus and buttery tones. Mouth is very hoppy with some lemon and wood tones, then some apple peel. Weird.

Cask gravity at Planet Thanet BF 2007. Gold colour with thin off white head. Eggy diacetyl aroma. My only really poor beer in 2 days.

A Mes rate: Gravicask @ Planet Thanet. My first real shocker of what was an excellent festival. Butter, eggs, sulphur and diacetyl. Only vaguely hoppy. Pretty rank.

Golden, with a nice head. The aroma is fruity, citrussy and the flavour is crisp and fresh with notes of fruit, caramel. But as soon as it got a bit warmer, the magic was gone. The fruit became a bit boring (a bit like apple juice) and the citrus became a bit harsh, so I recommend that this is cold, when you drink it.

Thin white head; faintly hazy pale orange body. Faint sweetish aroma. Light watery taste of apple with dry resiny finish. Subtle citrusy flavours. Strange mouthfeel. It’s decent, but nothing great. (0.5pt on cask.)
