This traditional amber lager is brewed with German malts, hops, and yeast. It is pleasantly malty, balanced with light, crisp bitterness.

4 oz. taster at Atlas. Light amber color with a persistent thin layer of foam. Amber malt smell, but then I taste it: a big peppery German hop taste. By now I’m talking to the brewmaster, who says, no it’s not dry- or fresh-hopped, and it’s been in the tank 3-1/2 months. Well, I’m not used to big hops in any Okto, but I am a hop fan even if it might drive a beer off the style sheet.

Draft right after the dry hop okto. It literally tastes like a pumpkin beer with jops replacing pie spice. Just not what I’m looking for in a maerzem.

Great Oktoberfest. Slightly cloudy orange with a foamy head of mixed bubbles. Great, rich, toasty, fresh malt character but not too sweet. Earthy hop bitterness in the finish. Medium bodied with mild carbonation. This doesn’t take any liberties with the style and does it right top to bottom.

Orange hazy color. Malt flavor with a bit hops. Caramel and smooth. Really easy drinking.

Sampler pour on tap at the brewpub (Chicago, IL). My first stop in saw 10 drafts. This was one. Pours a nice amber pour, a touch of darkness but lighter than expected. Bubbly with a well sized tannish head atop. Stays firm sized, laces ok. Aromas are touch toasty and biscuity, bread malts, touches of gentle florals and spice. Mellow sweetness, apple, more bread, gentle toastiness. Lighter and a bit sweeter than expected. Initial is a bit better, toasty and biscuity up front, firm toasty malts, gentle spice, almost into caramel and even cocoa which was a bit odd. Toast, biscuits, and caramel. Some gentle spice and dryness at times. Middle is a bit sticky, but more toast and darker middle slanted. A touch girthy, caramel and butterscotch jabs. Backend is a bit earthy, gentle dry earthy hops, grass and florals make appearances. Wins me back a bit more. Odd sweet twang at times, richer toasty biscuity malt presence at others. Dry earthy hops into the back with a bit of spice. Odd one, with good and bad kinda battling. Perhaps they’ll lock this down over time.

Had on tap at Atlas. Pours a medium amber color with a small head. Balanced with aromas of crackers, malts and some grains. Not the most complex, but pretty straight forward. Medium bodied with a solid feel. Balanced with notes of grains and malts. A solid Oktoberfest. Very drinkable and pretty straight forward.

Draft at Atlas. Pours a paler orangey gold with a fluffy and persistent white head. The nose is robust malt graininess, light spicy hops. Very clean and crisp. On tasting, big malt flavor and and a balancing bitterness. Faint herbal hops. Very clean and quite impressive. Some toasty/grainy malt and a faint astringency to dry it out. Pretty great beer.

New brew apparently at atlas brewery. Enjoyed their other beers and also this. Pours a darker orange. Thin head but sticky. Good malty and earthy aroma, taste also. Nutty and caramel hints too. Liked this and normally not a huge fan of the style ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
