4oz pour. Appearance is reddish-brown color with medium, off-white head. Aroma is fruity, sweet, caramel, and pine. Taste is sweet with flavors of sour fruit, caramel, some pine hops. Strong bitterness for a red ale. Palate is medium bodied, very smooth texture, average carbonation, and a dry finish.

Draft at Atlas. Pours nearly black with a tan head. Nose is oaky. Vanilla is powerful here, spicy oak and some dark fruit and cocoa. Soft esters as well. On tasting, it is quite clean. Fruity with some roast in the back end. Big oak character and boozy. Hits you with a blast of dark fruit, booze & tannins. Almost puckering finish. Very strongly flavored overall and not really my favorite flavors. Okay but too in your face. Lacks subtlety.

Sampled at FoBAB 10 - 2012 (Chicago, IL). Pours a rich deep brownish opaque pour, dark and ominous, dark and near opaque. A rothy tannish head dies to a film. Laces ok. Aromas are toasty toffee, vanilla, and oak. Some roast, toast, and toffee. Gentle sweetness, oak. Some toffee. Toast. Vanilla. Gentle roasty qualities. Gentle port, oak. Middle is mellow, touch of dark fruit, oak, spirit. Backend shows roast, toast, toffee. Vanilla, oak, gentle warmth. Finish is gentle spirit, red fruit, and roast. Caramel, toffee, toast, and sweetness. Red wine spirit element works well. Solid.
