Pours dark brown with little to no head. Grainy aroma and flavor. Not much in the way of bourbon flavor. Not great.

12 oz. bottle thanks going to fishmich on this one. Pitch black, thin lasting tan head. Aroma is mostly chocolate with some light vanilla.

The flavor is a decent Porter base but not much in the way of bourbon or oak. Deep chocolate notes, light traces of earthy malts, prunes, various dark fruits light caramel. Thinner body, with a chocolate sweet finish.

12 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled in 10/2014. Pours clear nearly opaque dark brown color with a 1 finger dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toffee, oak, bourbon, toast, dark bread, licorice, smoke, light vanilla, herbal, and roast/oak earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt, bourbon barrel, and earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toffee, toast, dark bread, oak, bourbon, licorice, smoke, light vanilla, herbal, and roast/oak earthiness. Fair amount of herbal/roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toffee, toast, dark bread, oak, bourbon, licorice, smoke, and roast/oak earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Good robustness and solid complexity of dark/roasted malt, bourbon barrel, and earthy hop flavors; with a nice malt/barrel balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very smooth, moderately creamy, and slightly bready/chalky mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very solid barrel aged Baltic porter style. All around good robustness and solid complexity of dark/roasted malts, bourbon barrel, and earthy hop flavors; and very smooth to sip on. A nicely enjoyable offering.

UPDATED: NOV 7, 2014 Bottle: Deep brown body, black in the glass with a fine-bubbled, tan foam that slowly sifts on top. Aroma with lots of red apple & cherry... Lots of fruit, almost tart. Some roast, underneath... But I mostly get red apple. Flavor has a strange bourbon flavor that isnít integrated well... Just like taking a weak shot of watered down bourbon with notes of apple & astringent tannins on the side. A hint of chocolate malt in the finish is the only saving grace. This is likely an "off" bottle but thereís no doubt that this beer would suck anyway. All Atwater bottles are fucking "off" bottles. Thanks, Obama.

One of the better atwaters Iíve had in a while. Poured a darker brown with a beige head. Aroma was of barrel, and medium roast. Flavor was mainly barrel, some grape and caramel character too.

Aged approximately 8 months in bottle. Black pour with brown hues, a few fluffy inches of brown head. Initial nose of floral hops, sweet maple syrup, fragrant woodsy oak similar to walking into a wood shop, vanilla, and blended bourbon. Carbonation a bit high for the style and age, thinner mouthfeel, clean finish that dries your teeth. Bourbon and maple flavor very well mixed with roasted coffee and chocolate malts typical of a porter. Detecetable oak and vanilla as well, bitter flavor toward finish. not too overbearing BBA offering, well done and dare I say light.

Draft at Atwater in the Park - pours a dark brown with no head . Big bourbon aroma . Taste is sweet bourbon upfront with a hint of mild roast coffee . Not bad . ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Sold on the Bourbon Barrel Aged label, but this beer didnít live up to the hype usually associated with Bourbon Barreled stouts.

12 oz bottle. Nose is sweet chocolate and gentle bourbon notes. Tastes of oak, vanilla and sweet cocoa.

12oz bottle. Deep brown-black with burgundy corners. Respectable beige head. Sweet and sugary, the barrel just adds to that, mixing in some vanilla and mild oak. A pretty decent brew, but quite sweet. Wouldnít really have any desire to drink two of these in a row. Drinkable, no off tones, but the last thing a Baltic Porter needs is more sweetness. OK, maybe.

Bottle. Pours a clear dark brown body under a small fizzy light brown head. The nose is heavy caramel, chocolate, roastiness, and a light hint of burnt rubber. I donít really get any hint of wood or bourbon at all. The flavor does show a very light amount of woodiness, but thereís still not really any bourbon flavor. i might have guessed that this was aged very briefly in a charred oak barrel, but never that it was a bourbon barrel. Rather sweet with lots of caramel and some chocolate malts, light roast and just a hint of vanilla on the back end. Medium bodied with gentle soft carbonation. Iím all for subtlety, but I usually expect a little more barrel character than this guy offers.
