I didn’t enjoy this beer one bit. Maybe my bottle was and expired or old brew. But whatever it was, my experience with this beer was awful. For one, this beer smells like chocolate on steroid and it overpowers all other senses. The beer has a sweet almost syrup-like taste the overwhelms. You end up tasting nothing but chocolate and very little beer.

12 oz bottle. Poured an opaque black with a thin tan head and no lacing. Singular taste of dark chocolate, with subtle hints of vanilla and chocolate malts. Boring palate; medium watery body, medium carbonation. Overall I think Atwater relied on the dark chocolate crutch far too much and could have been far more experimental and consequently brewed a more complex beer.

On tap, poured into a sampler mug. The aroma is a mild chocolate and cookie dough with a lightly metallic touch late. The beer has a fizzy, unstable look with a dark, brown-red with a tan, light foam head, a light lace, and retains a thin ring. The beer is a medium sweet and a very light bitter. The beer is thin and light with a fizzy carbonation. The light body has flavors of nuts and chocolate with a finish that’s roasty with a bread character and an aftertaste that’s lightly astringent and malty.

Bottle into a pint glass. pours a deep brown, with a moderate khaki head that quickly dissipates. Nose is a faint aroma of chocolate cake, and the taste is similar. Not as much flavor as I was expecting. no lacing. Thin mouthfeel with a short finish. Meh.

Lots of chocolate in this one but is it really a stout? Looks like one but is very light bodied and doesn’t have the roastiness you would expect. Smells like and tastes like hot cocoa. A little too much for my taste.

12 ounce bottle. Pours a dark reddish brown with a decent tan head. Nice aroma of chocolate, vanilla, and malt. Taste is chocolate, vanilla, malt, and some caramel. Kind of thin bodied. Pretty good for the price.

Sample at Kurtkeller 019: Choco-tastic 02 on 12/27/2014. Dark brown pour with a medium thin tan head that recedes steadily. Short strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of chocolate and malt. Light-bodied with flavors of chocolate syrup, sweet malt and a touch of coffee. The finish is sweet with a chocolatey aftertaste. Decent overall.

A great looking and smelling Stout, but something is slightly off with the toasty flavor.
