3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
The aroma is roasted and malty, with a bit of chocolate. The taste is roasted syrup, if it existed, and some dark chocolate. Overall, pretty nice, something I would drink again.

From bottle. Chocolate malted aroma, very sweet and almost fake. A little bit of maple syrup. Dark brown-black clear with thin head. Medium body and carbonation. Starts sweet with chocolate malted flavors. Nutty sweet throughout with carbonic bite. Light bitter finish.

3.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
12 oz bottle into a pint glass. This had some potential until I discovered it was classified as a stout. I knew it was going to be rough just based on the thin pour. The poor is very dark, on the verge of a light black. There is a thin off-white head that fades to nothing rather quickly, and no lace to be found. The aroma is all chocolate. You could smell this thing from across the room. There is a hint of coffee toward the back end, but chocolate dominates everything. The flavor is all chocolate again, but fails when compared to the aroma. No coffee this time around, all chocolate, and it's very light. The mouth feel is extraordinarily then for something that is supposed to be classified a stout. Water may even have a tad more viscosity. The aftertaste is nonexistent, and this is just very disappointing as classified a stout

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
From draught @Camba Tap House, München 02/2014. Aroma to be had from more than arm’s length: deep confectionery dark chocolate that I would love to learn is all roasted dark malts, but more probably due to a generous injection of same from a pancake house-style chocolate syrup bottle. Reminiscent of Young’s Double Chocolate Stout, but more Overwhelming liquid cocoa gives way to some roast, minimal supporting coffee notes and minimal hop presence before giving way to a quick finish on a thin palate.

I had this from a bottle, poured into a standard glass. Thoroughly enjoyed the aroma, a nice dark chocolate and almost caramel or coffee hint.
Very dark black in color, with a minimal head.
medium body, creamy, average carbonation, slightly bitter finish from this one.
I enjoyed this, but I definitely prefer their Vanilla Java porter to this one!

The first sips are rather strong with cocoa, and although that mellowed for a bit into a more sympathetic chocolate ale (not really sure whether this merits being classified as a stout), later on the negatives return with some astringent (another rater had a good adjective in "chalky") finishing notes. It is also quite thin and begs for more dimensionality, especially on the back end of it. Not something I would drink again. Bottle.
