COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This well-balanced Pale Ale is a combination of both European and Northwest American hops. But, a word of warning: this beer is not to be taken lightly. Though its golden color and floral bite are a result of its beautifully balanced hops, this beer also has a lot of body.

Bottle. Clear yellow no head. Light carbonation. Musty hoppy aroma. Sharp unpleasant astringent taste that lingers in a unpleasant finish. Not Atwater’s best work.

Bottle. Honey color. Small white head. Mild grassy aroma. Flavor has a bit of citrus. Plenty of hop bitterness. Nice dry finish. Good mouthfeel. I’m more of an IPA fan so pale ales are sometimes a letdown. Nothing objectionable here. Nice easy drinking beer with enough hop bitterness to make it respectible, but not sought after.

Pour from a 12oz bottle. Darker yellow / amber brew with small head. Light aroma with a little faint grass. Taste is light malts at the start mixed with a light hops bitter, transitioning to a more bitter / grassy finish. Nice lingering bitter in the finish. Good palate - satisfying with active carbonation. Everything here is great and if there were just a bit more of it we’d have an excellent brew, but as it is we have a very good brew that I will be sure to revisit.

Pailhead (3435) - Plymouth, Michigan, USA - SEP 19, 2011
Bottle: The aroma is pretty nondescript...maybe some faint toastiness and fruit, but I really feel like I’m searching. It’s certainly not offensive as there’s nothing there to offend. It pours a mostly transparent golden-orange with just a touch of haze and a one finger head that quickly fades to a soapy film. The flavor starts bready and mixes with some toasty caramel. The finish has some light citrus and grassy hoppiness. Light bodied with mild carbonation. Overall, it’s a thirst quencher/lawn mower beer, but it’s lacking as a Pale Ale.

Drinking this from a bottle, poured into a glass. It’s a nice pale ale, with that great citrusy hop flavor. Great summer beer!

Bottle. Cloudy straw-orange body, thick dissipating puffy off-white head. Toasty, biscuity nose with moderate piny, spicy hops bitterness. Light, bready body with faded, slightly bitter hops, and earthy, dirty yeast.

Strangely, this is in a dark green bottle rather than brown. It doesn’t seem to be skunked but does have some other issues. For one, it is way overcarbonated. The head is huge and ungainly. The color is a nice enough pale orange though. Nose is earthy hops w/ a sharp bite. Flavor comes across as excessively dry w/ the earthy bitterness being somewhat overboard. Some interesting bubble gum fruity notes come out as you delve in deeper, they remind me of some organic New Zealand hops I used once in a homebrew and didn’t really like then either. This just really isn’t a well made beer.
