12 oz bottle compliments of Hopscotch. Dark brown with a nice foamy, long lasting, tan head. Faint malty, doughy aroma. First taste is a tad bit sour but improves as it goes. A bit on the weak, watery side even for a lager. Not a bad beer, but far from great.

Aug 11, 2008 A gift from Sandman2222. Good stuff, rich in flavor for a lager. The head is unbelievable. This head is VERY anxious to meet you. I had 1/4 a glass of beer and an overflowing head. A bit weak in aroma, but flavor has lots of malt, and some nutty or maybe banana flavor? Very sweet in the finish. Surprisingly complex for a lager.

Aug 9, 2008 Really disappointed in this beer. It took 8-10 minutes to be able to empty the bottle into my glass. Foam head was as tall as the glass. Slowly faded. Color was nice and aroma had caramel, malts and a little sweetness. Way too much carbonation. I tried to finish the pour drinking right out of the bottle and ended up with it running all over everything. Again, was excited at a dark beer, but other than the color was really disappointed.

Aug 6, 2008 12oz bottle courtesy of sandman2222. Pours a dark chocolate brown with an immense foamy tan head. In fact, the head was so large that I was only able to pour a few ounces at a time into my lager glass. Aroma is sweet and malty with some notes of caramel and sugar. Flavor is somewhat chocolatey and sweet with a smooth, creamy mouthfeel. Light to medium body with a sweet slightly coffee finish. I agree with many of the recent raters who suggest this beer is way too carbonated.

Aug 3, 2008 I was surprised to find this at my local Publix, as Atwater I didn’t think was all that big. It was a good surprise though, as the beer was dark and sweet like it said it was. I enjoyed the heck out of this beer aside from the heavy carbonation which caused me to take smaller drinks.

Jul 29, 2008 I should know better than to buy a dunkel from an American micro brewer I’ve never heard of. The first indication that I made a mistake was when foam started shooting out of the bottle immediately after popping the cap. An attempt to pour the beer caused my lager glass to instantly fill with foam. Drinking from the bottle was even worse with a blast of carbonation that exceeds most champagne. This was one of the most unpleasant beers I’ve consumed recently. The flavor was sugar sweet with only slight roasted malt notes. I wouldn’t be surprised to find out some macro crap house like Miller owns Atwater. Awful stuff.
