COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our malty, sweet dark lager is a hometown favorite. Our Dunkel is packed with subtle roasted malt flavors without the excessive bitterness and heaviness of many dark beers and has a balanced hop finish. O.G. 13.5 Plato 5.2% ABV

Bottle. A dark brown pour with way too much head, foam all over. Aroma of dark bread and burnt plastic. Flavor is heavy on the malt, like burnt caramel, tea and something else ? Sorry this was not for me

Wish I had read the reviews of this before I bought it. Oh well, it was only one bottle in a mixed six so whatever. A gusher that had soured. The aroma was barely malty and slightly sour. Malt flavor and thin chocolate are washed away by chemical sourness. Body wasn’t great. Drainpour.

I was hoping for more with this beer, but perhaps my bottle was a little old or exposed for too long. The aroma was somewhat nutty but the taste has a sour flavor to it which I did not like. Give it a try for yourself and perhaps you will like it.

UPDATED: SEP 4, 2011 This beer came to me via a beer club and is not a brewery I am very fond of.+++ Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle the beer poured a dark brown color with a small tan head that faded quickly. The scent was strongly sour and almost skunky. The flavor was light and malty with a hint of skunkyness. It did manage to taste better than it smelled. A bit of sour malt lingers on the aftertaste. Overall this is a drinkable but not particularly impressive beer.

its thin, flat tasting, low malts quality. It taste more like a cola than a dark lager. Caramel flavor is not very apparent. not really worth your money

I should know better than to buy a dunkel from an American micro brewer I’ve never heard of. The first indication that I made a mistake was when foam started shooting out of the bottle immediately after popping the cap. An attempt to pour the beer caused my lager glass to instantly fill with foam. Drinking from the bottle was even worse with a blast of carbonation that exceeds most champagne. This was one of the most unpleasant beers I’ve consumed recently. The flavor was sugar sweet with only slight roasted malt notes. I wouldn’t be surprised to find out some macro crap house like Miller owns Atwater. Awful stuff.

Bottle. Hmm, not at all what I expected. Pours a dark brown, almost black, with a thick, fluffy beige head. Heavy lacing as I drank. Aroma was sweet and fruity. Up front the flavor is sour, like sour cherry. Afterwards there is some mild roasted malt character, but barely a hint. Not well balanced, unpleasant flavor. Light to medium in body with lots of carbonation. Tart aftertaste. I have never been more tempted to pour a beer down the drain. I have to think this beer might have expired. (Even though I did buy it last week.) As it stands, I do not recommend.

A tawny pour, cloudy with ruby highlights and an over-the-top four inch light hazelnut head. A very forward dried fruit profile laced with a syrupy sweet caramel, a bit of spice, likely from some citric hops, and a not-to-pleasant phenolic sting of lacquer. Whoa, this beer is wildly spicy, a bitter bite that jumps to the fore and sinks in past the finish, razzing almost any other palatable sense moot. Getting past that (or attempting to), the beer is medium-light weigh, with extremely strong carbonation. The flavor is a bit fruity and roasty... but honestly, this beer is unpalatable. Somebody turned up the dial on the astringent/bitter characteristics of this beer way too high. Perhaps I got a bad batch? Who knows....

Bottle sample courtesy of my friend Nick- A deep cola pour with a frothed beige cap. Nose of spoiled cabbage and smoke, some fruit. Tastes of sweet cabbage, smokey chocolate, bitter fruits. Medium bodied, nasty cabbage aftertaste. Drainpour.

The most dangerous beer in America! Its exploding all over the USA! LITERALLY!! Of course its over-carbonated, it started refermenting on the warm shelf or truck it was shipped in. Using cheap glass doesn’t help and the forty year old soda bottle filler doesn’t get steam sterilized (chemical only). DIRTY BREWERY = DIRTY BEER!
