A frontal assault on the American IPA style that features not only the classic American Cascade and Chinook hops, but two of the new “Super Cascade” varieties in both the kettle and in the dry hop. Dried and ground orange peel is added to the whirlpool to deliver a citric bittering that sets HopApeel apart from the masses.

Bottle from Champanes, this ale poured dark orange-amber with a hint of brown and made about a fingers worth of faint off-white bubbles, it left some spots and partial rings of lacing on the sides of the glass, the aromas were toasted malt with some orange and dark fruit that resembled faint raisin, a little caramel with a dark bread sweetness, and it had faint citrus hops, it had flavors of generous toasted malt with some dark fruit, a little orange and lemon, and a lot of toasted bread sweetness, the finish had a little bitterness with grapefruit citrus and a lot of malt sweetness and fruit trailing, the mouth feel was light medium with soft to average carbonation, it was a little creamy on the tongue, this beer was a malty IPA without much hops, disappointing as a IPA drink.

Bottle from Breeze Thru. Pours orangey copper with a bit of a white head. Lots of spotty lacing. Aroma has light citrus, pine and some caramel. Taste is of sweet fruits, bitter grapefruit, light pine and some resin. Eventually, underneath, some toffee malts and some woodiness show through. Medium bodied with some alcohol presence. Finishes tangy and bitter. Shrug? Detroit water? 13.3

Bottle: The aroma consists of moderate caramel, toffee, fruit, candied orange, and a touch of grapefruit. It pours a transparent amber with a two finger orange tinted off-white head that eventually fades to a thin film outlined by a soapy ring. There is a good amount of soapy lacing left on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with moderate caramel, toffee, and light candied orange. The finish has moderate grapefruit, lighter pine, and light bitter orange peel. It’s medium bodied with mild carbonation and a slightly sticky mouthfeel. Overall, I don’t like caramel in my IPAs.

12oz bottle. Unfiltered thick red-orange body. Steady off-white/bneige head. Not much of an aroma. Big, caramel thick sugary old school American IPA. Not bad, but not really good in any way either. Pretty drab. Crystal malt overload. Very glad I didn’t buy a six pack.

Bottle: Clear amber with a small beige head. Aroma is bready and grainy....orange. Taste is orange-peel, caramel malt. Dull, heavy bitter. Ok...but not very lively...or well balanced.

UPDATED: AUG 15, 2014 355ml bottle. Bottled in June. Bottle says 118 ibu which is about as high as it gets. Smber/orange gold pour. SMell is biscuit, herb, and orange. The flavor is huge orange, just huge, a cutting bitterness as well. A bit sweet but overall if you like citrus oriented ipas you’ll like it. Edit: as it warms it gets more malty and vegetal. Don’t normally say this but drink this ipa ice cold.

Not a bad orange hop smell. Flavor of malts. Minimal hop flavor and not much orange in the body.

pours hazy golden orange with a small light beige-orange, some retention and lacing. sweet and doughy caramel, fruitiness - over-ripened peaches and oranges, maybe a hint of citrus peel, lightly sour-ish red fruits, dill, pine, bitter herbs, some sweetness. moderately low carbonation, light to medium body - oily, bit sticky, sweet-ish and assertive if not harsgh citrusy-spicy-piney finish. plain, linear, strong and sweet ipa with a dash of orange.. clearly unbalanced. blah.

Bottle. Murky orange pour with a small soapy head. Orange and grapefruit rind in this, plus a little metallic element. Not bad, not great.

Bottle. Biscuit caramel and orange peel aroma. Golden yellow with small head. Sweet bready caramel malt and moderately bitter metallic orange peel flavor. Okay but rough.
