A frontal assault on the American IPA style that features not only the classic American Cascade and Chinook hops, but two of the new “Super Cascade” varieties in both the kettle and in the dry hop. Dried and ground orange peel is added to the whirlpool to deliver a citric bittering that sets HopApeel apart from the masses.

12 oz. bottled Sep. 2015. Clear orange-copper body has a lasting disc of cream. Nose is earthy toffee and tangerine. Tastes of earthy toffee, orange hard candy and citrus zest. Dry, acidic finish has a little much citrus zest for my buds. Near-medium body is smooth with low-medium carbonation and hides the 7.5 well.

Crisp amber and copper coloured body with a large, five centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of pale malt, yeast, bread and a bit of hops - no citrus at all yet. Medium-bodied; Assertive nutty and earthy malt up front with some toffee and a very light, layered sweetness of flowers, oranges and caramel, with some grassiness and a bit of metal on the finish. Aftertaste is relatively subdued with some sweetness and earthy malt with toffee and little else - no hop bitterness and only some faint orange flavours. Overall, a decent beer at best, without any hop qualities or citrus notes, this is a bit underwhelming. I sampled this sixteen ounce can purchased from Siciliano’s in Grand Rapids, Michigan on 11-September-2015 for US$1,99 sampled at home in Washington on 06-October-2015.

From a bottle into a snifter. Moderately clear intense orange color mostly clear with a bit of cloudiness. Orange, lemon citrus on the nose, some sweet caramel malt background also. Smooth light body with low carbonation, slight sweetness, and moderate bitterness. Okay.

Tap at Clubhouse BFD. Pours clear golden. White head. Mild lacing. Aroma is mild citrus, lemon. Generic ale. Flavor is the same. Citrus and again, generic ale and malt character. Fine wouldn’t get it again.

I really love this beer. It’s perfectly balanced, but you can still feel the bitter and hoppy flavor.

Bottle to teku, pillowy head atop a deep rosy amber. Nose of some prickly pine notes, little toasted malt, sweet chewiness. Taste is quite similar to Weyerbacher Double Simcoe, with a tart rind finish. Interesting, but the orange peel seems a bit unnecessary.

A good IPA with a little hint of orange. Pours with a really thick head, nice amber color.

Decent aroma, sweet oranges to start followed by some floral hop notes,as it warms some sweet caramel pokes through. Mid hazy burnt orange body with a thin soapy cap that leaves some decent lace. Mouthfeel has a slight carbonation bite, and its on the sticky side. Flavor starts with grapefruit rind and pine but gets rather astringent, some bitterness on the backside. It has some nice attributes but it just does’nt really jive for some reason.
