3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours a light golden yellow. Very grassy aroma. Flavor is crisp and malty, with some background hops. Not my favorite style.

1.4 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 4/20
Yeah, so, this is a bit old (bottled in Feb ’15). Pours a murky dark gold, quite ugly, with not much of an eggshell head that forms a ring and leaves some spotty lace. Nose involves honeyed malt, some butter cookie (or butterscotch), faint grassy hops, some oldness, I even got a whiff of cigarette butts and perhaps a dash of suphur. Pretty sweet, not much bitterness, certainly not enough to balance. Medium full body, slick, softer, finishing sweet, mildly toasty, and twangy with weirdness. I love how it says "high gravity lager" on the label. This is definitely where maibock and malt liquor collide. I got this 6-pack on the cheap, but it’s going to be rough trying to finish it. I have a feeling a couple of these are getting lost in the fridge. I hope this was better fresh. In this condition, it’s a borderline atrocity.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Honey gold with little head. Aroma as sweet and malty. Taste is sweet grain with a bit of unpleasant funk in the finish. Dangerously close to cloying.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
From a 12 oz bottle into a Scotch Silly chalice. Pours gold with head and lace. Aroma of malts, grains, fresh cut wood. Medium carbonation and significant mouthfeel. Flavors of amber malts, grass hops, grains, saison herbs, slight burnt oak and cough medicine. Overall full bodied and flavorful, but not like German maibocks and there’s something funky off.

1.6 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20
Bottle (bottled Feb 2015).
Head is initially average sized, frothy, white, mostly lasting.
Body is dark yellow to light amber.
Aroma is moderately malty (horse feed, wort, cereal), with a note of taffy.
Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter, very unclean.
Medium body, oily/syrupy texture, lively carbonation, lightly to moderately alcoholic.
Horrible nose that’s like a bad non-alcoholic beer...very raw and unfermented smelling, like a feed bag for horses. Almost nothing else to smell, just a plastic taffy sorta thing underneath the wort. Sweet and slick/oily in the mouth. Undrinkable garbage. Looks great though...silver linings, right?

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle, thanks sevenhokie! Grassy malt aroma with notes of caramel malt. Pours golden colored with a decent off white head with good retention and lacing. Starts with grassy malt flavors with a hint of caramel sweetness. Finishes dry with a good malty, but with a slight hop bitterness hop bite that makes it a nice bock. I liked it!

2.5 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Very sweet and citrus/bannana tastes. The taste was overbearing and unenjoyable. Disapointing.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 ounce bottle into lager glass, bottled in 2/2015. Pours slightly hazy golden orange color with a 1 finger dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of honey, toast, biscuit, light nuttiness, herbal, grass, light pear/apricot, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of dark/bready malts and earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of big honey, toast, biscuit, light nuttiness, herbal, grass, light pepper, light pear/apricot, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate herbal/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of honey, toast, biscuit, light nuttiness, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice robustness and balance of dark/bready malt and earthy hop flavors; with a good malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Fairly clean on lager flavors with not too much yeast notes present. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth and moderately creamy/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warmth lingering after the finish. Overall this is a very good maibock. All around good robustness and balance of dark/bready malt and earthy hop flavors; and very smooth to drink for the ABV. A nicely enjoyable offering.

2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 6/20
Bottle: Clear amber body with a fuzzy light-beige head that settles to a sudsy collar. Aroma is... weird? Notes of gravy (yes), black peppercorns, toasted cereal grain, heavy flowers & honeycomb, & an overly syrupy sweetness flowing from start to finish... What is going on? Flavor includes excessively sweet & heavy caramel malt, honey, grains, bitter earth, mild florals, & some stale off-notes in the finish, reminding me a bit of wet cardboard. Oxidation maybe? Heavily grainy & dirty finish with an overly sweet honey & caramel thing happening. Strangely fizzy mouth feel. Not good. Surprise, surprise.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Transfer from BA review on 3-15-14-
Served on tap in a pint glass
Appearance – The beer is served a medium golden amber color with a one finger head of white foam atop. The head has a good level of retention, fading over a moderate time to leave a tiny bit of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the beer is quite heavy of a biscuit smell along with lots of toffee sweetness. Along with these smells are some lighter notes of a more light fruit nature with some pear and apricot mixed within. A little bit of a grassy smell is there as well creating a rather easy going aroma.
Taste – The taste begins as the nose suggested it would with a big biscuit malt taste along with some sweetness of a caramel nature. As the taste advances the caramel transitions more to a toffee like flavor picking up a more buttery taste as it moves on. Along with the toffee comes flavors of fruit of apricot and peach with a little bit of a grainy flavor coming to the tongue as well. With these flavors so too comes some grassy and lightly boozy tastes, which in the end leave a rather malty and big, lightly boozy flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the thicker and chewier side with a carbonation level that is on the lower side. Both are rather nice for the big malty flavors of the brew making for a rather nice sipping maibock.
Overall – A decent maibock. Nothing too exceptional, but a nice go to when looking for something malty and chewy.
