3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 DocLock (5966) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 2, 2006
UPDATED: AUG 20, 2008 Bottle from the Beer Yard. This one is good. It straddles the line between an IPA, a saison, a bier de garde, and even a triple as it warms up throughout its undigested life cycle. The pour is hazy golden with a fluffy, frothy, 3-finger head that lingers throughout the pour and reappears upon repouring. The aroma was big pineapple and hops, with a some fruit, pale bready malts, saisony funk, perfumy florals, plus some black pepper. Very complex in aroma. The taste was very hoppy and bready malty up front, with the cascading waves of saisony funk, bier de gardy dry floral perfumy spices, and a tad of candi sugary triply essence.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 12/20 Eyedrinkale (3214) - Astoria, New York, USA - MAY 28, 2006
12 oz bottle. Big bubbled head when poured into a smaller tulip but not much in a regular. Aroma is dusty hops. The hop finsish is the only real star of the show here with a very nice citrus hop bite. Lively mouthfeel with some flavors of honey.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 11/20 mkobes (2123) - paramus, New Jersey, USA - MAY 28, 2006
12 oz bottle. Deep orange in color with no head. Aroma is hoppy. The hop finish is the only star of the show here with a very nice citrus hop bite. Lively mouthfeel with some flavors of honey.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Silphium (2718) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - MAY 14, 2006
Hazy copper body with suspended particles, thick, puffy off-white head. Piney hops plentiful in the otherwise bready, caramely nose. Notes of citrus rind. Toasty, bready body with abundant bitter, rindy pine and citrus hops, leaving a long, bitter aftertaste. Medium-bodied, fairly well-balanced. Not bad.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Cornfield (5277) - Oak Forest, Illinois, USA - MAY 3, 2006
Pouring a pale copper with an off-white head, the aroma is an even blending of Caramel malts and NW hops. The bitterness kicks up a notch in the flavor, the malts still present along with a light fruitiness, but fading to the background. Nice bitter grapefruit finish. With a modest abv, a good, sessionable IPA.
