nuplastikk (361), Maryland, USA Apr 29, 2008 12oz bottle. Golden straw colored blonde beer, with a rich foamy head. Heavy citrus aroma. Light and refreshing as an English IPA, but with the American signature Cascade hop profile. Creamy and sweet. A well done American IPA.
Headbanger (890), Aurora, Illinois, USA Jul 2, 2008 12oz botle-A light orangish body with a small tight white head and an aroma of butterscotch, malt, caramel, and no hops. Taste of malt, butterscotch, and finishes dry. This also has a funky taste that can’t be described. Not much of and IPA. This is not a salvation for hop heads more like a liquid version of a candy butterscotch. tiggmtl (4148), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Jun 23, 2008 Butterscotch is strong in the nose with underlying grapefruit and floral hoppiness. Clear, deep bolde body is topped by a decent and lasting fine bubbled head that leaves some nice lace. Caramel malt, citrus and floral hop flavours are rounded out by light butterscotch. Some toasty malt character is notable especially in the lingering sweet aftertaste. Medium light body with strong soft-bubbled effervescence. Bottle sampled at a tasting chez MartinT after the qualifying session for Grand Prix 2008. twitcher (95), framingham, Massachusetts, USA Jun 11, 2008 bottle. Clear light orange-copper-ish color, decent white head with fair amounts of lacing. Smells of sweet toasted nuts, light floral and lemon notes. Flavor consists mostly of too-sweet malty backbone fighting with some sharp lemon-ish hoppiness. Light on the bitterness, with a sweet slick finish on the palate. Not too bad, but not too good, either. MartinT (4241), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jun 10, 2008 My Bottom Line:
Spicy grapefruit-like hoppiness surfs on lean honeyed cereals before a timid buttery smirk surfaces in this drinkable but slightly awkward India Pale Ale.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A slice of foam dwindles into the shiny pale bronze.
-A pleasant peppery, spicy bitterness lingers nicely in the finish.
-The grain bill does not seem to contribute to the hops’ efforts much.
-If it weren’t for that butterscotchy character, we might have had a decent IPA here.
