The taste is a bit artificial, too much vanilla overwhelms the porter. Kind of harsh bite to it too.

Bottled, black with almost no head. Smelled like coffee and baked beans. Tastes like burnt baked beans, roasty, cocoa. Not a fan.

Bottle. Jet black. Thin head. Chocolate milkshake nose. Vanilla extract. Taste is more of the same. A little disjointed. Thin on the palate. Has a brew-by-numbers quality to it.

Pours a dark brown with a foamy tan head. Aroma is sweet vanilla and some coffee. Flavor is also dominated by vanilla, with some coffee notes. Moderate carbonation helps. Has a light body and flavor, but is nonetheless tasty and refreshing.

From Tap, dunkelbraun, fast schwarz im Glas, Schokoladen und Vanille Noten in der Nase, leichte Schokolade und Vanille im Geschmack, sehr leichter Körper für ein so dunkles Bier

Transfer from BA review on 7-12-12- Poured from bottle into pint glass Appearance – Pours a deep brown color with a big billowy tan head. The head fades fast leaving a lighter level of lacing. Smell – The aromas are heaviest of roasted malt and chocolate. Mixed with these aromas are some coffee and a sweeter vanilla aroma. While it is a little light in coffee and vanilla it is a nice aroma overall. Taste – Sweeter flavors of roasted malt and a semisweet chocolate meet the tongue. These are quickly greeted by a vanilla flavor and a very light coffee flavor. The coffee gets stronger in intensity, although it never gets close to as strong as the roast and chocolate. In the end the taste is largely of a sweeter coco malt with ever so light flavors of coffee. Mouthfeel – The body is on the creamier side with a slightly higher level of carbonation level. The thicker body suits the sweeter malty and roasty flavors well, although the higher carbonation takes a bit away from the creaminess. Overall –Not a bad brew, it has good flavors but does not really live up to its name as a “vanilla Java” porter.
