SB (291), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 28, 2006 Updated: Jan 6, 2007 From bottle. Poured very dark, opaque. I could see the carbonation, it looked alot like a cola. Short, small, fizzy brown head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, and oak. Flavor of chocolate, oak, and a small hit of vanilla in the back and lingers in the throat. Flavor could have been more pronounced. Thin bodied. Watery mouthfeel, but that didn’t bother me. High carbonation levels, but it was an easy drink.
Tap @ Fat Heads. Pgh, PA.
Poured dark. Nice frothy, creamy off white head. Aroma of vanilla and strong, smelled like a buttermilk pancake Flavor was full of vanilla, and malts. Carbonation was good. Smooth and easy to drink a few! I really enjoyed this beer on tap!!
Crockett (903), Steelback County, Ontario, Canada Oct 8, 2008 I’ve had a few of these odd porters which claim "they are supposed to taste like that" (Think kuhnen creme brulee).
Nose of sour milk and sour cherries. Coca-Cola pour with a short lived tan head. Beer was quite spritzy with a very light body. No more coffee flavour than I would have expected in a regular old porter. Quite a bit of apple and some tangy tropical fruit which is odd. The Vanilla never really showed up for me in any pronounced fashion. Somewhat short mineral thin finish. Not quite living up to expectations. I was looking forward to this. It’s too bad. HDane (81), Chesapeake, Virginia, USA Sep 28, 2008 Pours dark with a MASSIVE head. Nose isn’t too bad - mostly coffee. Flavor is disgusting - way too sour and bitter for "vanilla java". Down the drain! blipp (818), Grand Island, New York, USA Sep 25, 2008 Bottle. Pours deep brown with a tan head. The aroma is all coffee beans, maybe a hint of vanilla. The body is much thinner than I expected. The flavor is again, all coffee beans, very artificial tasting. Not bad, it’s at least drinkable. BeerBaron617 (153), Novi, Michigan, USA Sep 21, 2008 I had this in the bottle at Ashley’s in Westland, MI. I was unimpressed with this brew. It was watery, and the flavor wasn’t even close to the description. I’ve ranked it low, just because I expected a lot from this beer, and I was disappointed. Oh well, you win some, and lose some. Cheers! StFun (339), Indiana, USA Sep 13, 2008 I was pretty stoked about this one when I grabbed it, but was pretty let down. Vanilla Java Porter sounds awesome, but both the vanilla and java are weak, and the porter is thin and watery. Basically just weak, dry, and slightly bitter. Almost like a Guinnes, and not in a good way.
