Pours black with a light brown head mostly dissipating. Nose is malt and coffee. Very creamy on the palate, the taste is coffee and vanilla, slightly sweet but very pleasing. A note of hops at the finish reminds you that this is beer. Very flavorful. Pairs well with pretzels or cheese.

It seems like it has quite a few flaws, so I would not think that fans of highly-rated porters like the Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald would like it. However, it is on the mild side as far as overall flavor, so it is almost like a gateway beer for people who usually don’t like beer or only like shandies. It’s ok as a mild porter.

16 oz can at Nationwide Arena. Atwater Vanilla Java Porter is a deep brown brew with a mocha head. Nose is medium coffee with strong vanilla hints. Taste is a lightly sweet and mostly vanilla coffee experience. Body has a bit of silkiness with medium body. a decent vanilla coffee beer. A bit one note, but it does that one note well.

Draught at The Craft Brasserie. Not so sure what all the hate is about, this one may be a tad gimmicky but for the abv it is tasty enough, vanilla and coffee flavors stand out with a fairly smooth and soft mouthfeel. Decent.

Smells like a candle, tastes like one too. Fakey flavors in this one. Will pass next time. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

This beer starts off looking and smelling great. The color is dark and robust. You definitely smell the coffee aromas also. First taste is a great chocolate malt and then it has a very (almost too) smooth finish. Overall this is a very good beer

Draft. Pours brown thin lacing. Aroma of roasted coffee and vanilla. Medium sweet taste. Medium body, light bitter finish, sticky texture.

Pours a deep brownish black on tap with thin ring of tan head. Aroma and taste of good vanilla and coffee notes. Thinner mouth, but solid beer, better than the ratings here.

Poured a deep black color with aromas of light roast, coffee, and some vanilla. Flavors are light chocolate, and coffee with some roast with lots of vanilla, decent overall.

Bottle. Thin black pour. Vanilla over powers the coffee aroma and taste. Good flavor just too much vanilla. Should have aged the beer on vanilla beans instead of using extract. Far too strong flavor with the extract. Not bad but could definitely be better.
