How have I not rated this before mid-2012? I have not had it in years, but Atwaterís Vanilla Java Porter is the best tasting substance I have ever put in my mouth! It may not be the best representative of its style, but OMG it tastes good. Aroma of dark chocolate. Flavors include dark chocolate, vanilla and dark roast coffee. This might be the most perfect anything in the history of things! Too bad I only had access to it for a year or two, in variety 12-packs. With Yuengling coming to Ohio, my interstate beer runs have ceased, but maybe I need to head Northwest for one now?

Sounds delicious but falls flat. Pours a nice dark brown with a tan head. Light aroma of vanilla and some chocolate but not big. Taste is vanilla, light coffee and chocolate but kind of flat. Medium body feel with light carbonation.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Pours an opaque brown-black with a rocky, large-grained cream head. Nose is musty coffee with a touch of vanilla and wet stone. Weak iced coffee on the tongue; thereís not a lot of substance to it, though the vanilla is nicely balanced and thereís a smooth creaminess to it thatís nice. Finish is pleasant and smoky. Itís good, and ití doesnít use vanilla as a crutch.

Good. But not great. A little too carbonated. Nice finish but aftertaste is a little off.

Nice black color with a creamy head. Unfortunately it goes downhill once you actually drink the beer. Lots of fake vanilla and coffee flavor. Not something Iíd drink again.

Bottle. This has way too much going on outside of the natural brewing process. Tastes like a vanilla mistake.

UPDATED: NOV 8, 2013 Very nice rich dark color. Smelled of vanilla and chocolate. Tasted very weak for such a dark beer. Head did not hold only for a few moments and was gone. Poured thin and slick.
Very mediocre for a porter.
