Bottle. The pour was murky and almost black in color with a large (2-3 finger) light brown creamy head that had decent retention, reducing slowly to a thin cap with some good streaky lacing. The aroma was a lot like french vanilla coffee with some roasted chocolate malts and a sweet yeast and had notes of dark chocolate, vanilla and dark roasted coffee. The taste was lightly sweet and a bit bitter with hints of vanilla and dark chocolate from the onset with the finish having a more pronounced bitter coffee taste. The flavor hung around for an average duration after the swallow and had a mild bitter sweet coffee ending. Mouthfeel was a few shades above medium in body and a tad oily in texture with a good strong carbonation. Overall a Coffee Porter that has a lot more vanilla in the aroma than in the taste, but all in all it was a nice smooth tasty brew...

Great tasting sweet porter, its so smooth best way to explain it is a dessert in a glass

It’s a dark beer for people who don’t like dark beer. In other words it is light-bodied with sweet chocolate and vanilla flavors, and very low bitterness. It’s certainly not made for beer geeks, but it’s alright.

From tap at Taphouse Munich. Pours black with beige head. Aroma has coffee, roasted malt, espresso, dark chocolate, sour. Taste is medium sweet, light bitter, milk chocolate, slightly roasted, cacao, hints of vanilla. Aftertaste has chocolate and coffee flavour, very smooth. I like it.

Poured today from an August, 2013 made on date. Appears almost completely dark and coats the glass like a good 1w-20. Aroma is slightly chocolate sweet. Flavor up front is almost Cola like with some acidity/carbonation. Second flavors of chocolate and vanilla... Hard to determine which is dominant. Palate is acidic but not bitter. Bitter effects the next sip. This isn’t the case. Overall great and highly Drinkable fresh. At this age is still good but I feel is less a beer at this point but know that it could and likely will improve from here.

Black and chalky with a very thin off-white ring. Strong vanilla aroma with a little choclate. The flavor is dominated by vanilla. The body is medium amd the palate mild. I can’t taste much coffee except a little bean bitterness on the finish.

Bottle at home. Pours opaque black with a large, creamy light beige head, long retention with excellent lacing. Aroma is vanilla, roasted and coffee malt, light caramel notes, some prunes and dates with faint earthy hops. Flavor is dark malt, lightly bitter, vanilla, faint to no hop flavor, dark fruits and a balanced, dry finish. Full body and medium-high carbonation.

On Tap at Tap-House Munich karamellig, schokoladig, Kaffee, Vanilla, dunkelbraun, hellbrauner cremiger Schaum, süffig, so ein bisschen a la Starbucks meets Porter-Brewery.

Nice surprise : coming out of Detroit it reminds me of a malted soda with very strong vanilla overtones, coffee, and mild bitterness. Medium to slightly heavy body is present with a fair amount of carbonation (so much so that it limits how many of these I would drink). A nice brew and my first (but not last) Atwater product.

Mild chocolate/coffee aroma, with a little bit of roasty smell. Dark, clear colour, with a thin caramel coloured head. A little bit strong on the chocolate flavour, but overall very decent and sweet. Very light bitterness and little to no sour flavours. Would do better with a fuller palate. Overall, not a bad beer, but far from being great.

Good dark color, but lacking head; appears thin. Robust aroma, not overpowering. Tad weak. Strong vanilla, weak java. Good mix, but lacking back end.
