Pours nearly black with a finger of tan foam that leaves a bit of lacing. Quite bitter in an unsweetened chocolate kind of way. Finish is a bit chalky.

Very goo big imperial stout. Black as can be with a nice coffee head. Aroma is kind of the same earthy and coffeey. Nice alcohol warmth. Yummy.

Scents of dark chocolate and light vanilla hit the nose, the flavor comes at you more subtle than expected, it’s not you’re traditional imperial stout but very enjoyable none the less, feel is watery compared to others of this particular style, makes for a clean easy drinking stout with slight bitter chocolate ending that I personally crave, Atwater this is a fine brew

12oz bottle from gimmethefunk, thanks Pat. Pours a pitch black dense silky midnight black under a smaller foamy light beige creamy head. Aroma is a little weak or maybe my cold is kicking back in, notes of burnt marshmallows, dark bakers chocolate, vanilla extract, dark toast. Full body, soft carbonation, average duration on the aftertaste. Flavor of dry pudding skins, vanilla cake, dry soy sauce, cola, tobacco, dry plywood and dark bakers chocolate shavings. Decent.

12oz bottle to sniffter, small light brown rapidly diminishing head, dark murky brown.Light aroma of chocolate and earth, with a hint of prune.Medium to full bodied with average carbonation for style, with a bitter finish. Long lasting flavor with moderate sweetness, the alcohol is well hidden in the nose and mouth.Other than alcohol this might make a good session RIS.

Great dark color. This one was aged 11 months and has a ton of head. Not sure how it would compare out of tap. Good beer ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Nearly black, dark brown head. Hints of molasses up front, bitter chocolate, coffee, vanilla, licorice. Pretty nice beer.

Bottle: Looks lighter & thinner than you’d expect an 11% ABV imperial stout to look... Deep brown, more black towards the center. Thin khaki head fades quickly to a bubbly collar. Aroma of mild cocoa beans, charcoal, ash, black licorice, & faint soy. Light sweetness balanced with a hefty roast. Flavor is very cocoa forward. Think ashy, burnt cocoa beans... If that makes sense? Very roasty, ashy, & charred with a big charcoal essence, however balanced by a strong, nutty chocolate flavor, semisweet with a slight creaminess. A hint of black licorice & some lingering dark cocoa char in the aftertaste. Mouth feel is kind of upsetting, a little thin & almost... chalky? Otherwise, this is one of the best things Atwater makes, methinks.

CelticBrew (907) - The Crystal Coast, North Carolina, USA - SEP 17, 2014
Pours from 12 oz bottle an opaque dark brown with a solid blanket of dense light brown head. Aroma consists of moderate-strong cocoa powder, moderate caramel, vanilla, plum & raisins with a touch of espresso. Flavour consisted of big milk chocolate, roasted malt, vanilla, cream, coffee, slight fruit, earth, and light smoke. Very small roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of milk chocolate, vanilla, cream, coffee, and roasted malt on the finish for a good bit. Big malty flavors with good balance; and no cloying sweetness. Medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a very creamy, slick, and thick mouthfeel that is nice. Really enjoyable.

Pours dark brown. light for a RIS. Smell is roasty, chocolate fudgy, sweet. taste is ashy, burnt dark bitter roast. thin body for the style. Not terrible but i’m not enjoying it either.
