3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
25th January 2012
Opaque black beer, pale tan head. Softish palate, crisp and minerally edge. Minerally dark malt, not heavy, roasty or bitter. Mild tangy fruits in the undertone - orange and darker fruits. Cocoa powder chocolate dominates before the minerally dry finish. Pretty light for itís abv and with good flavour!

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft. Poured a dark brown color with an average frothy brown head that lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy toasted chocolate, licorice and alcohol aroma. Medium to heavy toasted dark sweet malt flavor with a medium to heavy chocolate sweet and small alcohol bite finish of moderate to long duration. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. This beer exceeded my expectations.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Opaque black with little head. A little roasty and boozy aroma, with a spot of vanilla. Somewhat thin for the style, not so well integrated. Bitter chocolate and some vanilla, bourbon, coconut. A sipper, not so drinkable.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
355mL thanks to CaptainCougar. My 200th Imperial Stout rating. The pour is a deep brown to near black with a dense, thick, cinnamon head. Small retention with weak lace. Nose is ash, sweet cherry, husky malt. Giant husky malt, raw malt, oatmeal. Taste is syrupy sweet but gains vanilla and chocolate ice cream. Nice dense palate. Little bit of ashy bitterness. The gf liked this one and she is the RIS snob. Probably palate fatigue as this was the last beer of the night for me.
