This is a dopplebock high-gravity lager. This one is big, black and sweet. It’s malty character is derived from two caramel malts along with Munich malt to create the smoothest high-gravity beer this side of the pond.

Bottle: The aroma consists of caramel, toffee, roasted malt, and a hint of fruit. It pours a dark brown with hints of transparency when held to the light and a half inch off-white head with decent retention. The flavor starts with caramel and toffee. The finish has some light fruit, roastiness, and a hint of coffee. Medium bodied with mild carbonation. Probably one of Atwater’s better options in a bottle.

(12 ounce bottle - pint glass) Pours a dark brown liquid that has a large tan head. The beer has great head retention and leads to a nice lace. Aroma is of caramael malt and dark fruits. Tastes of roasted and coffee malt with notes of raisons and plums. Thin texture and soft carbonation.

11th October 2008. GABF. Clear dark brown beer. Nicely balanced toffeeish malt with just a hint of hops. Smooth silky finish.

Dark mahogany color beneath a thick light brown head. Aroma of caramel malts and dark fruits. Taste of cola and some tart dark fruits, a little bit of malt nuttiness. Too much tartness/sourness, not sure if its the early stages of an infection but doesn’t belong in this style of beer.

Middle of the road dopplebock. After drinking a better dopplebock, this one was a bit of a let down. It’s not bad, there is some complexity there but not enough. Not something I will buy again.

12 ounce bottle. Pours a murky dark brown with a large white head. A sweet malty nose, brown sugar. A warm flavor, nutty with toasted malts and a nice full mouthfeel. Not bad.

Pours with a massive and uncontrollable head off white head. Dark. Smells of sour fruits and root. Sour on the tongue not unlike many belgian brews. Nothing like your typical doppelbock. Too sour for me... didnt finish it.
