Had this in a flight on tap. No head and it looks very dark. Amazing aroma. Its very malty and caramely. Great brown sugar, caramel, cream taste. Its a little sour too but overall its really good.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled in 9/2014. Pours crystal clear nearly opaque dark brown color with a 2 finger dense and rocky tan head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with some moderate streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of caramel, toffee, toast, dark bread, chocolate, cocoa, coffee, nuttiness, raisin, plum, fig, herbal, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas of dark/roasted/bready malt, dark fruit, and light earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of caramel, toffee, toast, dark bread, chocolate, cocoa, coffee, brown sugar, nuttiness, raisin, plum, fig, herbal, and yeast/roasted earthiness. Fair amount of herbal/roast bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, toffee, toast, dark bread, chocolate, cocoa, coffee, brown sugar, nuttiness, raisin, plum, fig, and herbal/roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Good complexity and robustness of dark/roasted/bready malt, dark fruit, and earthy hop flavors; with a solid bitterness/sweetness balance and some light cloying bitterness on the finish. Pretty clean on lager flavor with no overly estery notes present. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth, fairly creamy/sticky, and lightly bready mouthfeel that is okay. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is a pretty solid doppelbock style. Good balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt, dark fruit, and earthy hop flavors; and smooth to sip on for the big ABV. The cloying bitterness/stickiness definitely killed the mouthfeel, but there was some good malt complexity overall. A pleasantly enjoyable offering.

Really delicious. I don’t know anything about what to expect from a Doppelbeck.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Dark pour with some murky darker brown whisps. Softer carbonation, creamy mouthfeel. Light smell, creamy, and roasted malts, a bit grassy, berries perhaps, definite iron. Sweetness that’s vague, light pine and astringent metallic hops, slight bit of roasty malts.

3.8 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
PerSonally I like this a lot for a beer in my back pocket. For the style it is lacking a bit. However, I wouldn’t turn it down. Deep red purple coloring. Flavor is light not as heavy as it could be. Highly deceptive as far as abv. Watch out

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Poured from bottle into British pub glass. Malty aroma, malty, and lots of caramel. Not black, but clear dark brown. Head was a nice two finger tan head. Nice lacing. A nice rather heavy medium sweetness. Thin body, easy drinking. Hardly any alcohol aftertaste. A very refreshing lager. Will drink many more. Overall an enjoyable Dopplebock at 9%.

Bottle to glass. Dark pour. Looked good but generically bland in taste. Toward thin side. Wanted more

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
pours unclear medium dark brown, orange tint, with a nice reviving light beige head, some retention and lacing. dark chocolate malts, burnt caramel, coca-cola, woodsy vanilla and coconut, dates and figs but borderline rotten fruits, grass, pepper, clean german yeast. light carbonation, light to medium body - oily, semi-sweet and very lightly astringent grassy-woodsy finish. a tad overdone somewhat still.. a-o-k.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
12oz bottle that poured almost black..no head to speak of. the aroma was interesting mildly sweet malts and some dark fruits. as it go warmer you did get some hints of caramel. the body was quite thin for a dopplebock. I was expecting a better flavor out of this and I was disappointed. light bodied thin and just light flavors. $10 for a 4pack was really not worth it.

3.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Very faint aroma of bready, toffee sweetness. You really have to get your nose in there. Pours an impenetrable black, you can only see a little light when held right up to a bulb. No lace or head to speak of. Nice, if typical Dopplebock taste. Medium sweet followed by pleasant bitterness. Cool label.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle. Pours a dark brown with garnet highlights and a high, fine-grained cinnamon head. Nose is molasses, pumpernickel, baking chocolate, dried fruit, and nutmeg. Sweet up front, with a chocolate/caramel tinge; while that note is nice, there’s just not a lot of complexity that follows it. It’s good for what it is, but there’s very little depth to it; the mouthfeel is very nice and smooth, however. Finish is short and thin. Fair.
