This is a dopplebock high-gravity lager. This one is big, black and sweet. Itís malty character is derived from two caramel malts along with Munich malt to create the smoothest high-gravity beer this side of the pond.

Caramely brown with nice tan milkshake head. Somewhat meager nose of malt, milk chocolate, vanilla. Medium body beer. Sweet flavors of chocolate and toffee are almost instantly overpowered by bitterness. Very quick finish, slight bitterness as reminders that youíve had a beer at all. Ok beer not my top beer from Atwater.

Nice acidic mouth feel that builds a mocha soft chocolate on the palate. A little bitterness is very faint in the back of your mouth. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft. Pours black. Aroma and taste are sweet caramel, and malty biscuits..

Bottle. Pours a cloudy amber with small off white head. The aroma is roast and caramel. Thin mouth spice, roasted malt, light bitter finish, good.

12 oz bottle. Poured an opaque dark brown/black with a frothy tan head and phenomenal lacing. Taste of brown sugar, vanilla, caramel with a slight dark chocolate bitterness finish. Fizzy carbonation, medium-full body, creamy texture. Overall, the alcohol is hidden well and the flavor is there, but itís too faint for me and not as prominent as Iíd like it to be.

Bottle - smells roasty and of bread. Sip adds metal and caramel with a slight grassiness. Really sweet with dark chocolate bitterness. Not what I would call a doppelbock. A little harsh.

Thanks drowland! Not a great beer. Weird metallic taste and a lot of caramel sweetness. Not much else. Not much nuance. Oh well.

6/26/15. 12oz bottle my dad brought down! Very dark brown pour with a small tan head, mild lacing. Huge metallic aroma, dusty, husky grains, toasted caramel. Bitter flavor, metallic, caramel, nutty, toasted caramel. Meh.

Missed my flight from Grand Rapids to Chicago because of the dumbass Chicago weather and so spent the night in the airport and pulled this out of my suitcase to drink with some Chex Mix. From the bottle, and so canít tell what it looks like. Smells really malty with lots of caramel and toffee. Alcohol is noticeable. Decent beer.

Bottle. Rich caramel malt aroma with notes of toffee and some nuttiness. Pours caramel brown with a thin tan head and decent lacing. Starts with huge caramel malt sweetness with hints of nuts and toffee. Finishes smooth with the caramel sweetness carrying throughout with a slight bock bite at the end before it gets washed away with the sticky caramel that clings to the palate. Nice doppelbock.

Great doppel with a high alcohol. Black as night but hasa sweet caramel side that makes it pleasing.
