SB (287), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 1, 2006 From bottle. Dark Pour. Light brown, bubbly head. Aroma of bread and malt. Flavor of roasted malts, nuts, and fruit. Raisins, brown sugar, and caramel. Very sweet. As it warmed I picked up more of the alcohol and molassas. There are alot of flavors going on here, but they don’t really mesh. Carbonation is lively, as I can feel it on my throat. Not bitter, no hop flavor. Mouthfeel is very chewy.
Acknud (592), Morganfield, Kentucky, USA Sep 1, 2008 Nice drinkable beer. Amber pour with a frothy amber head. Aroma is malty with a faint roasted touch. Malty taste that hides the alcohol until it hits the stomach and gives you a nice warm rush. This would be great on a crisp fall day. demitriustown (579), Macomb, Michigan, USA Aug 30, 2008 Aroma is a nice nutty, malty, caramel, and somewhat woodsy scent. It smells slightly grainy, creamy, and somewhat sweet as well. Appearance is a almost opeque dark brown/black with a medium sized tan head that diminishes into a soapy film. Taste is nice a big with the malt, nice roasted flavors, caramel, grainy, sweet and scrumptious. It’s got a medium feel on the tongue with a roasted malt characteristic lingering on into the aftertaste. Overall, It’s a pretty nice doppelbock I would buy/order it again. Cheers! merlin48 (349), Henderson, Kentucky, USA Aug 30, 2008 Bottle courtesy of Acknud. Pours a clear, dark mahogany body with a large tan head that overflows the glass. Lots of clingy patch lacing. Aroma of molasses, spicy hops and red apples. Kind of thin for the style with some over carbonation. Taste has molasses, brown sugar, toasted dark bread, and red apples. Spicy hops are faint. Alcohol is well concealed. Nicely drinkable. hombrepalo (467), Chicago, Illinois, USA Aug 28, 2008 Pours deep brown with a dense tan head. Faint bready and dark roasted malt aroma. Medium light body, a tad amount of wateriness on the texture. Initial flavor of caramel. Mid palate is sour and nutty with some astrigent coffee notes. Extreme ashy lingering flavor on the finish. Mouthfeel shows some liveliness despite its heft. Overall an average beer. bhensonb (2887), Woodland, California, USA Aug 24, 2008 Bottle from Vintage Cellar. Very dark brown color with garnet notes. Multi-finger beige head. Nice aromas of spicy hop and dark fruit. Medium body with very vigorous carbonation. Tastes of brown sugar, burnt caramel, and some low level spice. Makes the mouth tingle. Finishes brown sweet, but not sickly so, the burnt malt bittering a mediation. Still think there is spice, but can’t pin that down. It is a very tasty lager.
