This is a dopplebock high-gravity lager. This one is big, black and sweet. Itís malty character is derived from two caramel malts along with Munich malt to create the smoothest high-gravity beer this side of the pond.

Pours a dark almost clear brown with thick tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, sweetness, chocolate, and caramel. Flavor matches well, but just doesnít have the balance of a great doppelbock. Drinkable, but forgettable...if it wasnít for the label, which is really cool.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy amber with small off white head. The aroma is roast and caramel. Thin mouth spice, roasted malt, light bitter finish, good.

12 oz bottle. Poured an opaque dark brown/black with a frothy tan head and phenomenal lacing. Taste of brown sugar, vanilla, caramel with a slight dark chocolate bitterness finish. Fizzy carbonation, medium-full body, creamy texture. Overall, the alcohol is hidden well and the flavor is there, but itís too faint for me and not as prominent as Iíd like it to be.

Bottle - smells roasty and of bread. Sip adds metal and caramel with a slight grassiness. Really sweet with dark chocolate bitterness. Not what I would call a doppelbock. A little harsh.

Thanks drowland! Not a great beer. Weird metallic taste and a lot of caramel sweetness. Not much else. Not much nuance. Oh well.

6/26/15. 12oz bottle my dad brought down! Very dark brown pour with a small tan head, mild lacing. Huge metallic aroma, dusty, husky grains, toasted caramel. Bitter flavor, metallic, caramel, nutty, toasted caramel. Meh.

Missed my flight from Grand Rapids to Chicago because of the dumbass Chicago weather and so spent the night in the airport and pulled this out of my suitcase to drink with some Chex Mix. From the bottle, and so canít tell what it looks like. Smells really malty with lots of caramel and toffee. Alcohol is noticeable. Decent beer.

Bottle. Rich caramel malt aroma with notes of toffee and some nuttiness. Pours caramel brown with a thin tan head and decent lacing. Starts with huge caramel malt sweetness with hints of nuts and toffee. Finishes smooth with the caramel sweetness carrying throughout with a slight bock bite at the end before it gets washed away with the sticky caramel that clings to the palate. Nice doppelbock.

UPDATED: MAR 4, 2015 On tap, poured into a sampler mug. The aroma is strong of bread crust and toast with a light note of nuts and toffee that strengthen. By the end, aromas of honey and citrus are just as dominant as the bread crust. The beer is a dark orange red color with a tan, dense foam head that retains a medium ring and a moderate amount of light lace. The taste is a medium high sweet and a light bitter. Itís slick and oily with a foamy carbonation. The medium full body is toasty and malty with lots of cooked toffee flavor. The finish smooth with a chocolate touch added to the toffee, as well as alight dough quality. The aftertaste has a light candy and/or cooked sugar note and is light cloying.
