COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This malty, sweet, dark amber colored German-style bock beer is brewed with imported malt and hops. Its uncommon smoothness and impeccable taste make it the perfect companion for a cold night.

Clear, dark red-amber with an off-white head. Aroma of caramel and sweet bread. Taste is sweet malts, caramel, and a tiny hint of metal. Medium-full bodied, slightly syrupy, and a little dry.

[6145-20140124] Bottle. Light caramel grainy malt aroma. Slightly hazy, brown body with a quick foamy off-white head. Grainy toasted caramel malt notes continue in the flavour. Medium body. Average. (6/3/7/3/13) 3.2

Draft at Zingerman’s Roadhouse. Brown and bronze color. Light aroma of caramel malt. Flavor trends to sweet but not sticky. Nice.

Bottle. Pours a clear dark caramel amber body with a small fizzy off-white head. The nose is slightly sweet with some caramel and slightly husky grain. The flavor is a bit thin and one dimensional, rather sweet with a slight dry huskiness on the finish. Not especially well lagered, it finishes a bit dry and dusty. Medium bodied with soft fizzy carbonation. Meh, about on par with what I’ve come to expect from this brewery.

355ml bottle. Burnt amber pour. Aroma is caramel malts and bread. Flavor is jsut hitting hte spot for me right now. It has the body of a much lesser beer but a nice sweetness that has you coming back for more. Not a typical doppelbock but I have had comparitive brews but this is better.

So lagers. They’re a thing that people like. Personally I’ve never seen the allure, but I do respect a good lager/bock. This is a fairly good one. It drinks like a Boston lager. If you can imagine Boston lager with a little less hop and a who heap load of more malt flavor. This is like if you lagered a stout. It’s really good, definitely a winter beer. Too bad I missed having this in winter....

This beer tastes very damn good and is 7.5 alc. It doesn’t have a very strong aroma, but I guess that doesn’t really matter much since I don’t buy beer for the smell. It has a cool label with the skyline of Detroit as seen from Windsor and Atwater is down there. No twist off cap it requires a real bottle opener which means it is serious.

2014-01-25. Brown body small off white head. Aroma of sweet caramel malt and the flavour is similar, lightly tangy earthy malt, mild caramel notes throughout. Average bodied palate, soft carbonation. Bottle shared by DuctTape

On tap at Dan’s. The pour is amber-ish, at best, with a lot of lighter golden types of visuals. There isn’t much head to be found, and the lace is just as existent. I wouldn’t know this was a dopplebock by looking at it. The aroma has a lot of caramel maltiness to it, but it remains light and pleasant. The flavor is really similar. Somewhat basic, but not overly bad. The mouth feel is light, carbonated, and the aftertaste is pretty unique. It’s not overly bitter, but it’s nothing like the caramely sweetness of the nose.

From bottle, courtesy of Ed. Light caramel and cherry wood, biscuit. Sweetish with light alcohol notes and few hops. Coppery amber clear with quickly dissipating head. Medium-heavy body with medium carbonation and light warming. Starts and stays moderately sweet, with caramel and biscuit. Astringent cherry wood notes and light grain dust. Nutty bitter finish with lingering sweetness. A bit of raisin in the after.
