Boutip (1725), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Apr 30, 2008 Bottle: Poured a deep slightly hazy brown color ale with an average foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of caramel and molasses with some lightly sweet malt notes. Taste is also dominated by some caramel and molasses notes with light sweet notes and some very light dry hops are also discernable. Full body for the style with some good carbonation. Very good session beer coming from a hit and miss brewery.
tiggmtl (4157), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Feb 26, 2008 Nutty, biscuity and chocolate malt aromas blend in the nose along with a tangy undertone. Opaque deep ruby-brown coloured body is topped by a decent, fine bubbled, tan/cream head that recedes to a thin partial cover with some scant lacing. Flavour offers more complexity than the aroma would suggest. There’s plenty of malt sweetness with nutty and chocolate character while some darker malts add bitterness that complements quite assertive hop bitterness. It’s a bit charred in the aftertaste with lingering dark malt character. Medium body with pleasant moderate carbonation that is just slightly prickly to keep the tongue interested. Tulip glass. Cellar temperature.
Murky dark brownish-amber color. Subdued nutty and caramel malt tastes. Smooth, mellow, and mild but still flavorful. Mild hoppy spicyness interplay between the rich malt sweetness. A great dark session beer. blankboy (2499), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Sep 28, 2007 Bottle courtesy of Viper666. Pours a murky ruby-brown with an average size somewhat-lasting off-white head. Mild aroma of lightly roasted caramel malt, chocolate, light hops and nuts. Flavour’s malty, nutty and has a decent amount of hops and an average bitter finish. Average bodied. Not bad at all, I’m impressed, especially for Au Maitre Brasseur. Quite good actually.
