Rastacouere (5409), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Aug 20, 2008 Objectively speaking:
Grainy porter that gets tiresome as it warms.
I like:
Solid off-white head. Gentle milk chocolate tones.
I dislike:
Rather husky malt character, strong graininess, more astringence than I’d like, yet not from the hops. Kinda green in its beany roastiness as well and this does not fit a black beer. Simple flavour evolution, not reaching towards the delicious kingdom of fruitiness, instead straying in graininess, long-lasting dry teabad finish. HogTownHarry (3273), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Jan 24, 2008 Bottle (341ml). Shared with blankboy and garthicus, my bottle via trade with Viper666. Clear deep ruby, small beige head. Dry aroma, initially a little spicy and yeasty, then ameliorates to minty leafy hops and mild roast malt. The taste is a tad thin, initially it reminded me of watered-down blackstrap molasses, deep, almost burnt figs and decent bitterness. Light body, mild astringent tanginess, weak carbonation - I quite liked it! Sammy (3135), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jul 20, 2008 A very drinkable porter because it was a baltic that wasn’t. Jet black with initial white head. Easy drinking creamy mouthfeel. Malty with only a hint of sourness. Chocolate malts, maybe even some oatmeal. Soda and malt aroma. blankboy (2625), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jan 25, 2008 Bottle (341ml) shared with HogTownHarry & garthicus -- courtesy of HogTownHarry. Pours a very dark brown with ruby hues and an average size diminishing beige head. Aroma of lightly roasted malt, a hint of smoke, some coffee and chocolate and some light green hops. Flavour starts watery but ends somewhat harsh, it’s a bit unbalanced. There’s toasted malt, chocolate, coffee and light hops in the flavour. Average bitter finish. Average bodied. Better then I expected, a decent Baltic Porter. GregClow (2350), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Mar 20, 2008 Bottle from Super Marche Rahman, Montreal. Dark ruby-brown with a small off-white head. Warm aroma of roasted malt, coffee, cocoa and a hint of smoke and tobacco. Medium mouthfeel. Full flavour of coffee off the top, some chocolate smoke in the middle, and a surprising hit of hop bitterness in the finish. An interesting porter, not too bad.
