Thanks to Phil for the bottle! Poured deep brown with a short cap of tan head.. left slowly-cascading lacing as it descended. The aroma picked up sweeter, moderately-roasted coffee and black patent malts with accents of vanilla and smoky char.. a little tangy coffee twang on the back. The flavor found some coffee tartness and the same roasted malts from the nose.. coffee and some vinegary notes provided bitterness on the edges.. very roasty on the finish, but the malt bill wasn’t all that great. Medium-bodied and decently balanced on the palate.. a little bit sharp from the roast.. this was a decent drinker, but not much better.

341 ml bottle from Trappe a Fromage, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass.
App.: Deep brown-black with small light tan-grey head.
Aroma: Some white grapes, milk chocolate, a little molasses, licorice and darker chocolate when swirled and really sniffed, some leafy hops, a little vanilla/coconut.
Palate: Medium body, rounded and fairly full effervescence.
Flav.: Similar to the nose, grapes and chocolate, a bit more black coffee, some green, resinous hops, some dark chocolate; almost dry with fair bitterness, minerals and a little licorice and coffee to finish.
Light for an Impy, still tasty.

Nothing imperial about this one. Oily vinous herbal hop aroma mixed with coffee. Flavor us more of the grassy hops and a sharp toasty slightly watery coffee finish. Meh.
