3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Rastacouere (5919) - Montréal, - NOV 30, 2006
Deep auburn pour mounted by a small creamy beige head that leaves a lasting cover. Delicate spicy and floral aromas pair along a certain mild earthiness that gently contrasts with the well extracted fruity, toasty malts. Interesting accompanying crusty breadiness seems to come from the yeast. Every ingredient plays its role and offers its best. The intricacies keep on in mouth. Joyously focused on its ingredients, mellow cerealic sugars dry out to leave growing sheets of bitterness whose diplomacy can’t be denied. Light, drinkable and refreshing offering which hits the nail straight.

Originally rated December 2006. Purchased at the Dépanneur Rapido in Aylmer, Quebec. Pours a golden-orange colour with active tiny-bubble carbonation. Nice creamy off-white head that stays a while and leaves thick lacing. The nose is mild with nuts, fruits and hop, and with a touch metallic. Watery mouthfeel with slight creaminess. Soft bitterness with caramel malt and smoked malts in the finish. Nothing too fancy, but not bad. Enjoyed the smokey flavour (even though weird for this style).

Mild caramel and somewhat sharp though light grassy hops in the nose... There’s kind of a waxy undercurrent to the aroma. Not sure what causes that. Hazy copper coloured body is topped by a decent off white head that recedes quite rapidly to a lasting cover with some lacing. Citrus is strong in the flavour but malt profile is lacking - although there’s a lot of sweet fruitiness, it’s really very dry and perhaps a bit astringent. There’s a sort of ashy flavour in the aftertaste. Medium light body is somewhat puckering and carbonation is quite strong and pointy. This one didn’t really work out for me. Tulip glass. Cellar temperature. Bottle (Le Gobelet, Jan-08).

Bouteille.

Hitchiker from a trade with Boutip. Pours a lot of off-white foam on a light orange base. Besides some creaminess in head, body is below average. More bitter than malty, quaffable with orange citrus, Ok once but below average for style. Numb tongue finish.

UPDATED: AUG 20, 2007 [509B-20070811] Tap @ Saint-Bock (Montréal, QC). Very nice sweet sugary fruit plum aroma with a hint of fig and apple malt. Hazy, brown amber body with a long-lasting creamy grey head. Hoppy flavour has light lemon fruit citrus background with some grass and bitterness. Medium body. Enjoyable. [8/4/7/3/13] 3.5
[212-20070224] 341mL. Citrus yeast and fresh fruity grass aroma. Cloudy, brown orange body with a long-lasting big foamy light tan head. Tastes strongly suggests it was filtered through an ashtray, otherwise funky earthy citrus notes. Medium body, a hint of dry bitterness. Strange combination. [7/3/4/3/11] 2.8
