341 ml bottle from Trappe a Fromage, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass.

App.: Hazy deep golden with a smallish white froth. Aroma: Some typical wheat beer notes of wheat/hay, a touch of esters, a touch of citrus, all intertwined with an unpleasant organic acid/infected character. Palate: Medium-ish body, moderate effervescence. Flav.: Similar to the nose, there are some nice wheat beer flavours marred by signs of infection; dry with an acrid bitterness and a touch of tang.

Has problems and promise. To be re-rated.

Beautifully cloudy. Light gold color with a orange tint. Surprisingly small head with a correspondingly light lace. Strong wheat aroma. Lots of bread. Wheaty without the citrus tendency. relatively thin body for the style. Rather direct, but short-lived, aftertaste. Overall, a predictable wheat beer.

Wheat beer seems to be one of the German styles that is not often done well in North America. Sometimes the beers are decent in of themselves but don’t really taste like German wheat beers. The Blanche de Laval is a decent effort at a wheat beer. Certainly there are many superior Weizens in Germany (and a much smaller number of superior ones in North America) but this is not bad. Given that the German Weizens are only available at the SAQ at incredibly jacked up prices I might buy this occasionally.

A hazy weizen with a thick white head. Rather sweet chemical aroma with light citrus. In mouhth, a North American wheat beer with light banana and lemon. Boring.

Bottle - 341ml. Nice cloudy golden body with average carbonation and a tin white bubbly head. Its malty/hoppy aroma carries citrusy and yeasty hints, but some chemical/soapy ones as well. Taste is misbalanced and leaves a harsh, dry, chemical aftertaste. This doesn’t pass the test.

Bouteille de 341 ml. Nos yeux observent une bière de couleur paille trouble ainsi qu’un col de mousse modeste. Au nez on découvre des arômes de banane, de citron et de levure. En bouche le corps est mince-moyen avec une effervescence moyenne. On goûte des saveurs de fruits jaunes, de banane, de citron et de blé.

Bouteille 341ml. De couleur jaune-dorée et légèrement voilée. Nez de levures fruitées (bananes, agrumes surées), d’épices (coriandre), léger de blé et de céréales. Mince en bouche avec un pétillement moyen et une texture très légèrement crémeuse et aux petites notes aqueuses. Goût de levures fruitées (bananes, moyen dagrumes) accompagné dun goût épicé (coriandre) lors de lentrée en bouche auquel se rajoute un léger goût de blé, de pain et de grains de céréales puis en finale lon retrouve une très légère amertume provenant de la levure (quelques traces de poivre trrès doux) ainsi que des traces de houblon herbeux (herbe mouillée). Post-goût moyen composé dun goût de levures fruitées (pelures de bananes et zest d’agrumes) avec des notes de blé.

Pours a nice frothy head with a hazy, yellow-orange body. Smells very fruity and crisp. Very light, sweet and highly carbonated, giving it a real crisp taste.
