3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 mabel (4405) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 23, 2011
[3558-20110116] 500mL bottle. Roasted wood spices malt aroma has some fruity date and fig notes. Hazy, medium orange brown body with a quick foamy off-white head. Sweet toasted fruit fig malt flavour is a little heavy with booze but still hints at maple. Medium-full body. Interesting to sample. (7/3/8/4/16-) 3.7

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 jerc (5580) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 16, 2011
2011-01-16. Hazy dark amber body, frothy off white head fades away. Aroma is a blend of modest alcohol, sweet caramel malt, and a kiss of hops. Flavour is similar, with warming alcohol growing significantly as you go, warming the back of the throat. Pleasant modest bitterness balances a sweet toasty malt core, touches of sweet caramel malt. Pretty decent but lacks the depth to take it up notch. Enjoyable. Bottle courtesy of Bobsy
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 neuromatt (610) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 12, 2010
Vintage 2008. 500 mL bottle from Depanneur Peluso in Montreal, served in a snifter. Pours murky orange with a tall frothy off-white head. The head slowly fades to a bare cover but leaves a reasonable amount of fine lace. The nose has big aromas of orange, grapes and caramel along with biscuit, flowers, grass and a hint of dust. The flavour is fairly complex. It is honey sweet throughout with a balanced dose of hop bitterness entering around the middle and persisting to the finish. Notes of caramel and toasted malts, and and resinous hops are fairly well balanced. The finish is long and bitter. On the palate it is full in body with a smooth, creamy texture and soft carbonation. On the whole, this was a surprisingly nice beer. It is relatively complex and well balanced between prominent malts and big hops. It is very mellow, perhaps thanks to aging, and nicely creamy smooth. 2010-12-12
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 drowland (3879) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - APR 6, 2010
Sampled at RBWG 2010. Nice amber pour. The aroma is malty old ale and the flavor is very similar. There is tons of toffee and caramel. I can’t say I’m very impressed, but it’s still good.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Vertical Bacon Strips (1697) - Asshat, Alberta, CANADA - MAR 28, 2010
2008 Vintage.
Pours a hazy reddish orange brew with a thin off white cap and leaves some spotty lacing. Light, mild aroma that is fairly appealing, subdued sweet caramel, brown sugar, plum, watered down anise, I keep hitting cherry, perfume. I really had to sit on this to excise the aromas but it isn’t as boring as it was half an hour ago - still lacks real excitement though. Well blended mild spices with mouthwatering sweetness. Pretty straight forward - raisin, light spice, brown sugar, hints of licorice, spices keep hitting quick on every sip. Caramel, plum maybe, faint berries, faint spearmint (this might be a stretch...). I can breathe in just a touch of alcohol, smooth feeling brew, medium full mouth feel, leave a nice coating, finishes fairly long with waning spices and bitterness. I’d drink more just cause it was just so damn easy to drink - that’s worth something... isn’t it?

Bottle… RBWG ‘10… Hazy amber ale with a small, creamy, white head. Great retention. Estery, malty bouquet provides notes of dried fruits, medium sherry and brittle. Full-bodied and creamy with soft carbonation. Malty, estery flavor offers nutshell tannins and sweet, dried fruits. Finishes warm and semi-sweet. Dries out a touch.
