3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 j12601 (4415) - Poughkeepsie, USA - JUN 16, 2009
Bottle from Bonisoir Peluso in Montreal. Pours a somewhat hazy brown with an enormous beige head, almost making me think from the start that this might be infected. Sweet, slightly old grain, almost banana, touch of smoke. Big smoke flavor right up front, roasty grain. Finishes with a light bitterness. Interesting.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Glouglouburp (4772) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - APR 4, 2010
In short: A toasted beer that is a bit all over the place. Intriguing but not interesting
How: Bottle 12oz. Consumed about 6 months after purchase
The look: Clear amber body topped by a small beige head
In long: Grainy toasted malts, plain cookies, some caramel, some cardboard, surprising amount of smoke, banana purée, vanilla, maple syrup. The vanilla is certainly not overwhelming for a so-called vanilla beer (that’s a good thing). Some english style leafy hops bring some dryness and only a mild bitterness. But so far I just listed a bunch of flavors. In this case the whole is less than the sum of its parts. The beer is no cohesive and most of the flavor elements don’t work together. It’s not bad but it’s not pleasant by any means. Because I know people who work there I’ll try to be diplomat in my closing comments. I almost gave up on that brewery. But I liked the Intemporelle so I decided to give them another try. I think the brewer works like lightning, one bright flash and then it’s gone.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 Lubiere (6979) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - AUG 25, 2009
A clear brown ale with a thick moka head. A rather faint aroma of diluted caramel, vanilla, a light metallic notes. In mouth, a sweet caramel malt with rather intense vanilla notes, notes of infection via lactic acid, peppery notes, and rather thin bodied. 330 mL bottle from Jovi, most like bought in early 2009.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 MrManning (1945) - London, Ontario, CANADA - AUG 6, 2009
Bottle from Marche Jovi- A deep hazy and rusty brown pour, with a fizzy beige head. Spicy nose has vanilla, pit fruit, floral, and caramel notes. Tastes quite grainy, of sweet vanilla, caramel, spices, very earthy as well. Towards the finish, there is an odd tartness and what I can only describe as signature Quebec sourness, but it isn’t that unpleasant. This is creamy, but also quite grainy throughout. Unique.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 grandgenie (259) - gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - MAR 3, 2009
3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Eructoblaster (2121) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - FEB 15, 2009
Bottle - 341ml. Pours a cloudy brown body with average carbonation and a thin beige frothy head. Good malty/hoppy aroma with plummy, yeasty, and vanilla hints. Its sharp hoppy taste, however, seems to be slightly misbalanced. It carries some oaky, nutty and roasty notes and leaves a long, robust bitter aftertaste.
2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 probstblueribbon (1967) - Nepean, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 31, 2009
341 ml bottle from Trappe a Fromage (“Hey, can I open a 6-pack to get a single bottle”... “You mean like all these ones on the shelf...sure”), served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass. JA30/09.
App.: Hazy deep copper with a fair light tan froth.
Aroma: Some caramel and toffee malts, a bit of black coffee/dark chocolate, spicy rum, wood, nuts, some dark dried fruits, quite spicy actually, I guess some vanilla.
Palate: Medium body and fairly soft carbonation.
Flav.: Much more vanilla than the nose, less of the malts, still quite spicy, quite nutty, a bit fruity; dry, slightly tangy with some bitterness and lingering nuts.
Could have been better.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Viper666 (1210) - Saint-Hubert, Quebec, CANADA - JAN 18, 2009
Bouteille 341ml.
2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 Boutip (3451) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - JAN 7, 2009
Bottle: Poured a medium brown color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and good lacing. Aroma of light caramel malt with some subtle notes of vanilla. Taste is a mix between some light caramel malt with some very subtle notes of vanilla with some well balanced sweetness. Body is definitely too watery for the style with some great carbonation. Not too bad overall but lacking some character.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 martin21 (155) - Quebec city, Quebec, CANADA - DEC 25, 2008
Coup de coeur innattendu de cette ete. Biere rousse, tres leger gout de chocolat rapidement envelopper par la vanille. Juste assez balancer.
Light chocolate taste easily overpowered by the vanilla. Well balanced.
