341 ml bottle from Trappe a Fromage, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass.
App.: Deep brown with a huge tan froth.
Aroma: Lots of lovely crunchy malts, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, lighter molasses, a little nutty, minty herbals, quite fruity, like an Abbey Dubbel or even an Abt, woody and vinous.
Palate: Medium body and carbonation.
Flav.: The flavour follows the nose well, tons of rich, crunchy malts, dark and milk chocolates, plenty fruity, less of the minty herbals, still nutty, very nice; dry with fair bitterness and a lingering malty/earthy finish.
Quite nice. Quite belle.

(automne 2006)

Bottle. Pours dark, dark brown. The aroma is sweet malt. Good sized head, but this actually froze by accident and started to foam everywhere. The flavor is smooth with some hop.

12-oz, screwtop. Thanks, Glouglouburp! Pours opaque dark brown with a loose ring of a few bubbles in gray. Huge chocolate nose, smells truly like dark baking chocolate. Bittersweet, a bit acrid, very true to that aroma. Watery light body, very restrained carb. Huge baking chocolate mid-palate. It is acetic, almost tannic, very dry and almost chalkily bitter. But still has that nice chocolate tone to it. Quite unlike any brown I have tried. Not amazing, but nevertheless unique.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Boutip (3451) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - APR 30, 2008
Bottle: Poured a deep slightly hazy brown color ale with an average foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of caramel and molasses with some lightly sweet malt notes. Taste is also dominated by some caramel and molasses notes with light sweet notes and some very light dry hops are also discernable. Full body for the style with some good carbonation. Very good session beer coming from a hit and miss brewery.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 tiggmtl (4475) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - FEB 26, 2008
Nutty, biscuity and chocolate malt aromas blend in the nose along with a tangy undertone. Opaque deep ruby-brown coloured body is topped by a decent, fine bubbled, tan/cream head that recedes to a thin partial cover with some scant lacing. Flavour offers more complexity than the aroma would suggest. There’s plenty of malt sweetness with nutty and chocolate character while some darker malts add bitterness that complements quite assertive hop bitterness. It’s a bit charred in the aftertaste with lingering dark malt character. Medium body with pleasant moderate carbonation that is just slightly prickly to keep the tongue interested. Tulip glass. Cellar temperature. Bottle (Le Gobelet, Jan-08).
