A light amber tasteful Belgian Buckwheat Ale! Ouf!!! Bananas and bubble-gum esters are the major players in this game!

(hiver 2006-07)

Almost red color with a minimal head. High vegetal aroma (buckwheat). Candy and fruit malty taste with a trace of torrefaction.

Originally rate January 2010. This buckwheat beer pours a clean honey-amber colour with a big fluffy off-white head that stays a while with lots of wavy lace. The whole glass is covered with bubbles of medium size. Grainy nose (buckwheat) with notes of alcohol, caramel and light fruits. The buckwheat is real and alive in the taste too. A few spices are found. Nice smooth mouthfeel that is medium-bodied. The brew becomes cloudy at the last pour and the hop show up in the taste. Not a bad beer, but not something I would go for generally.

341 ml bottle from Trappe a Fromage, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass.

App.: Hazy deep amber with an off-white foam. Aroma: Some esters marred by solvent (acetone?), some nutty caramalts, slight earthy coriander, some unpleasant organic acids, some dark dried fruits and a little brown sugar, floral honey. Palate: Medium-ish body, moderate effervescence. Flav.: Similar to the nose – there are some pleasant Belgian/Abbey Dubbel flavours mixed with less pleasant organic acids, a touch of solvent; dry with fair bitterness (unintentional?) and tang.

The girl on the label has an infection...

Deep very hazy copper coloured body with an amber and orange glow with a very nice small tan head on top. Very potent aroma of curacao, coriander seed, yeast, oranges themselves, wheat and definitely a bit of banana. Medium-bodied; Nice pleasant breadiness up front with a bunch of bananas, yeast and coriander seed following behind. Aftertaste sweet and showing more body, tucked in with bananas, yeast and a touch of alcohol. Overall, not a bad beer at all - showing good character throughout without a slightest bit of off qualities. I sampled this 341 mL bottle purchased at Depanneur Peluso (Bonisoir) in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on 09-April-2009, sampled at home in Washington on 29-September-2009.

Ruddy copper coloured beer. Aroma is quite spicy and wheaty. There is also a nice light crystal malt toasted character. Chewy and sweet with just enough soft spicy hops to balance it out. Lightly spicy but not a whole lot of complexity. Nice, simple amber ale.
