341 mL bottle from Montreal, shared with brothers. App.: orangey-copper, minimal off-white head. Aroma: estery sweetness (cotton candy), toffee/caramel, dried fruits, lots of "malty smells". A hint of citrusy hops. Palate: very soft carbonation, med. bodied. Flav.: sweet maltiness (like the nose), a hint of sweetness, decent bitterness. I would have liked a little more dry-hopping, but still good!

Amber color with minimal head. Floral and light caramel aroma. A very good IPA.

Old rate. Bottle brought home by my wife from Gatineau. Poured a deep murky copper with a voluminous taffy like tan head. Aromas: musty honey, figs and wet hay...but where are the IPA hops? Flavour continues to break the style parameters; malt is more evident than the hops which taste fairly English. Clean finish...metallic after taste. Hops and caramel in the finish but in the wrong balance for the style.

Originally rated December 2006. This Laval (Quebec) IPA pours a clean caramel-copper colour with nice steady tiny-bubbled carbonation. Got a decent off-white creamy head by pouring a good distance away from the glass. Above average retention with some mild lacing. Beautiful nose of grainy malt, caramel, nut and slight hop. Creamy and a little watery mouthfeel. The taste is not as hoppy as I expected, but just like its description. Well mixed between the bitterness and the caramel, with light apple notes. A touch of burnt malt and nut is also present in the flavours. A great India Pale Ale for those who do not like their hop crazy, but still highly there with a load of other great things. This brewery is really impressing me so far.

Thanks to Blankboy. App: Copper gold, huge white head. Aroma: Nutty, a little wet cardboard, soy, perfume hops. Flavour: Weird, perfume, grass, pine, wet cardboard, salt with a long dry finish. Not bad.

Bottle. Pours a very hazy amber with a low white head. Aroma is nearly all toasty toffee with lingering yeast. Sweet malty flavours, joined mostly by yeasty fruit, with just a little hop presence detectable at the back of the palate. Very odd. Finish is more sour than bitter, leading me to believe that I had an off bottle (at least, for the brewer’s sake, I hope this is the case).

First of all, I like IPAs and I think this beer is strong in it’s category. This beer is looking good. The copper color is taking an orange-like color, this beer looks great. This beer is bitter and very dry on the tongue. I can taste zests and lots of hops. This beer is worth trying. But the after taste is not pleasant. Only for the IPA fan.

Clear copper coloured body with a ruby tint, millions of small bubbles and a very thick dense tan head that leaves a rather spacy lace. Aroma of fresh light hops, caramel, yeast, caster sugar, apricots and some mild apple. Medium-bodied and effervescent mouthful with a bitter hop flavour at first, fading to caramel and yeast then topped off with a good malt backbone, some light apricot and fruit sugars and finished by a toffee flavour - nice complexity. Overall, a good IPA, definitely more of an English style IPA, but very nice and balanced. I sampled this 341 mL (twelve ounce) bottle purchased from Depanneur Peluso (Bonisoir) in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on 09-April-2009, sampled at home in Washington on 21-February-2010.

lefossoyeur (272) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - NOV 16, 2009
Amber brown with a small fading head. Nose of raisins, apple and bready, with a slightly phenolic/aldehidic profile of bad fermentation and DMS ( cabbage aromas). The beer is not undrinkable but far from being an IPA and has clear defects. I don’t know if it is just a bad yeast or problems in the boiler, but I had to return this pint.

I am frequently disappointed to read IPA on the label and not taste it from the bottle. Malty taste and not hoppy or bitter enough to be an IPA. Similar to the same brewery’s porter. Neither beer is bad or undrinkable but both are a bit bland and not really representative of their style.
