3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Glouglouburp (4772) - Montreal, - JAN 9, 2009
In short: An big IIPA with intense caramel, alcohol and bitterness. Good sipper.
How: Tap at Vices & Versa
The look: Clear dark golden body topped by a small beige ring of foam
In long: Rather strong nose of resinous hops. Taste is intense, thick crème caramel, alcohol apparent, resinous, coniferous, very bitter, smooth carbonation. Good beer if only a little too heavy and intense for its own good. Certainly not highly drinkable, this is a sipper. Surprising nice offering from a brewery that releases a new so-so beer every week. When trying anything and everything you are bound to hit it right once in a while. I once made a good spaghetti sauce myself.
3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Lubiere (6979) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 9, 2008
A hazy orange amber ale with a thin off white head. A pungeant floral hops with orange marmalade. In mouth, a rather funky intense c-hops, with nutty notes, sustained bitterness, good balance. Medium to rich bodied. Nice.

(Rating #1915)

My Bottom Line:
Orangey, floral and resinous hoppiness proliferates within the cozy mouthfeel of this amenable and justly bitter Double IPA.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam covers the hazy orange amber.
-Alcohol presence is discreet.
-To my tastes, the entire flavor profile would benefit from some crisper, brighter maltiness.
-The hoppy finish is quite coniferous, leafy and earthy; a veritable Laurentian forest!
-The healthy body and soft carbonation make for a highly enjoyable mouthfeel.
On tap at Festival Bières et Saveurs.
