Amber opaque appearance, very disapointing no head and lacing. Aroma: mostly prunes, maple syrup, raisins, and light oder of melasses. Flavor: alcohol (Vodka), prunes and dates. Palate: medium body, soft carbonation, oily with an alcohol finish. Will I buy another one? I dont thinck so.

A murky reddish amber ale with no head, lifeless. In mouth, smell of stewed prunes and maple spread, with licorice and vanilla. In mouth, a sweet candy sugar with molasses, pear butter (beurre de Liège), lots of warming alcohol, but lacking body and structure, a bit lifeless, still not as bad as expected from other recent ratings. Bottle is probably 2 years old.

(Bouteille datant de 2008, bue il y a quelques jours) Le liquide a une robe ambrée. Aucune construction mousseuse. Le nez présente des notes fruitées engluées dans la mélasse et le sirop d’érable. Quelques épices réussissent à s’échapper. Les saveurs sont collées aux arômes : très maltées et très sucrées avec un alcool fruité. En bouche, le liquide a un corps moyen. Aucune bulle ne traverse le liquide. La texture est légèrement collante. La finale, qui est toute en sucre, est doucement réchauffée par l’alcool.

Bottle. Flat brown ale. Smells better than it looks; alcohol, brown sugar and dark fruit. Mediciny, flat with strong brown sugar and soy sauce flavour.

Opened this up and there was zero carbonation. I almost poured it out as I thought there was a problem. Looked on here and see that it’s supposed to be normal. Already my hopes are down. Smell is sour plum and raisin and rather disgusting. Taste is acidic, sour vinegar, raisin and caramel. Not balanced, just a mess. This is a horrible beer.

Bouteille de 341ml. Pas de pschoooout...quand j’ai dévissé la capsule. Donc une bière sans mousse et sans effervescence, avec un nez très caramélisé mais aussi avec des effluves d’alcool, en bouche la bière est sucrée, elle goute l’alcool et elle est flat. On est plus proche du barley wine sans houblon que d’une ABT (abbé en flamand). Selon l’étiquette cette bière provient du lot 315-17 et a été embouteillé 13/06/2008. Par contre à 2,39$ cette bière offre un bon ratio alcool/prix.

App.: Deep mahogany with no trace of head. Aroma: Nice deep dark dried fruits, minty molasses, some orange peel, brown sugar and maple, a bit of alcohol, quite nice. Palate: Medium body, slick, flat...totally flat. Flav.: Like the body with minty licorice and molasses, dark dried fruits, big brown sugar, treacle, maple syrup, orange peel, a slight brothy note; a little dry with light bitterness and considerable alcohol.

I don’t think it should be this flat. A bit too much alcohol. Otherwise, tastes good.

Bottle: Poured a cloudy dirty medium brown color ale with a small foamy head with minimal retention and no lacing. Aroma of stale grain and alcohol phenols with gross sugar is not the most inviting. Taste is also very stale with some weird grain no fruity ester and gross sugar with some apparent alcohol. Body is full with limited filtration though somehow still thin in the aftertaste and almost no carbonation. Probably one of the worst interpretation of the style and one of the worst from this brewery.

Bouteille 341ml. De couleur ambrée foncée et voilée. Nez de levures fruitées (prunes, léger de raisins), de malt aux notes rôties, de sucre brun, léger de sirop d’érable, de caramel toffee et d’alcool avec des notes de houblon herbeux et de pain. Moyennement ronde en bouche avec un pétillement bas et une texture moyennement huileuse. Goût fruité (prunes, moyen de raisins aux petites notes vineuses, notes de dates) accompagné de petites notes boisées lors de l’entrée en bouche auquel se rajoute rapidement un goût de grains de malt sucrés aux petites notes rôties, de sucre brun, de sirop d’érable avec des notes de pain et de caramel toffee. Parallèlement, l’on retrouve un moyen-léger goût d’alcool réchauffant (petites notes de fût de chêne) puis en finale l’on retrouve une légère amertume de houblon herbeux. Post-goût moyen, léger-moyen amer d’alcool, léger de houblon herbeux avec un goût fruité (pelures de prunes, moût de raisins) et des petites notes boisées.

341ml bottle. Effervescence is never high in Abt brews but this is in total flatness, as if it was poured from a problematic bottle (the two bottles I bought were like that). Taste isn’t bad, lots of fruits, some maple-syrup-like sweetness, spices and an interesting layer of dry hoppiness but it is a rather disappointing beer to me.
