| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 25, 2007 A hazy amber ale with a thin off white head. A nice herbal hoppy aroma, with light notes of mint. In mouth, a good crisp malt, rather german hops marking, and a medium body. Nice, but I would have guessed this was a pils, kolsch, or something german. Bought at Le Gobelet, Vaudreuil, Nov. 24 2007. tiggmtl (4311), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
| 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Feb 25, 2008 Very sweet and fruit aroma is almost reminiscent of cream soda. Hazy, deep golden coloured body is topped by a generous, large bubbled, white head that recedes to a thin and lasting cover with some lacing. Sweet, soapy and floral flavours are dominant. Bitterness lingers but the flavours don’t seem to come together very well. Very dry in texture. Medium body with prickly carbonation. Tulip glass. Cellar temperature. Bottle (Le Gobelet, Jan-08). | 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 21, 2009 Bottle (341ml). Via trade with Viper666. Cloudy amber with some dark chunkies, large frothy off-white head. Slightly soapy light fruit aroma, vague floral bitterness. The taste is a weird blend of black pepper, apricot, celery and spruce - I think this is sweet, but all that other clutter ... dunno. Thickish body, weakly carbonated, pungent aftertaste from the spruce/pepper elements - not actually all that bad, but damned if I can say why from the aroma and flavour. blankboy (3204), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Mar 3, 2008 Bottle. Labeled ’Au Maître Brasseur La Distincte’. Pours a hazy orange-copper with lots of tiny floaties and an average size diminishing off-white head. Decent lacing. Aroma: Whoa, that’s surprisingly sugary sweet considering it says Pale Ale on the bottle, There’s also fruit and yeast but I’m getting no hops or malt -- weird. Flavour’s also sweet and fruity along with some Quebec yeast (yes, Quebec yeast, you’ll know if you’ve tasted many Quebec beers) and light hops. Very mild bitter finish. Average to medium bodied. It’s O.K. I guess but it’s one hell of a weird version of a Pale Ale. Glouglouburp (2815), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
| 1.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 2/10 | 2/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 5/20 | Dec 13, 2007 In short: A disastrous attempt at a Pale Ale. Unfortunately more bad than boring.
How: Bottle 341ml, very fresh (within a few weeks of its release). Also had the La Lysée Ambrée and I’m willing to bet they are the same beer with a different label.
The look: Cloudy dirty orange body with a short lived white head
In long: That awful aroma again that I come across one in while in some PA/IPA. Like the rotten smell coming from a dishcloth that you’ve been using for too long without washing. Taste continues in the same direction. Wet cake, watery caramel, crushed rotten citrus fruits, sweat and wet socks, ink (!!!), old juice that’s been out of the fridge for days, leather. Sparse carbonation. Finish is rather bitter but equally rotten and papery. Not only is it Barberie-ish but it is bad Barberie-ish. Good name, it’s distinct alright, good thing it is not the norm.

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 30, 2008 Updated: May 31, 2008341mL bottle, courtesy of wickedpete. Thanks, Pete! Pours a bright, clear orange-amber color; light tan head with solid retention and medium-bubbled lacing; a gorgeous pour. Pleasant, dry, toasty aroma: toasted malts, cereal, breadiness, and mineral bitterness. Medium mouthfeel: sweet malts / sugar, yellow fruits, and toasty grains; basic dry, chewy maltiness; very drinkable, reasonably dry, and tasty overall; pretty underrated right now. Medium finish: fruitiness, toasty grains, and mineral bitterness. Boutip (2351), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada
| 1.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 2/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 3/20 | Jan 25, 2008 Bottle: Poured a murky amber color ale with a small foamy head with minimal retention. Aroma of unrefined grain is not very tempting. Taste is also dominated by this unrefined grain taste with a dry finish. Full body with minimal carbonation. Wow, this is quite bad and definitely not something that I would drink very often and even less for a session.
