Aromes de grains roties, de cafe et chocolat. Balancee mais peu impressionnante. Roasted grains, coffee and chocolate aromas. Balanced but not impressive.

Nothing realy special about this stout. Even if it’s pretty well balanced, something’s missing.

This beer is outstanding but being a stout fan, I prefer higher ABV. This beer is worth a try and I wonder how this beer would taste on tap at the brewpub ! Interesting...

probstblueribbon (1967) - Nepean, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 21, 2009
341 ml bottle from Trappe a Fromage, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass.

App.: Deep brown-black with a large reddish-mocha head. Aroma: Nice milk chocolate, dark cocoa and grape-like fruitiness, slightly ashen and chalky, some berry fruitiness, a touch of savoury. Palate: Medium body with very full effervescence, a bit powdery. Flav.: Dark chocolate veering towards black coffee, some light lactic points, definite grapes, a little earthy, chalky and ashen; dry with some bitterness and an ashen coffee finish.

Nothing particularly special.

Good solid stout which is better than their porter. Has a nice typical stout taste but is a little bit thin and watery. If they produced a thicker, heavier version of this I would rate it higher.

typical stout, a good balance between the cocoa, and coffee notes, with some slightly roasted grains. Standard.

Dark brown-near black in colour, thin tan coloured head, light lacing. The aroma is chalky, dusty, some smoke, some roast and a bit of chocolate powder. The flavour is of cigarette smoke, a bit harsh, very light sweetness, moderate chocolate powder bitterness, light roast. Chalky mouthfeel, medium/light body, medium carbonation. Finishes smoky, bitter.

Old stale coffee and cigarette smoke don’t make for a good beer.

341ml bottle from La Trappe a Fromage in Gatineau, Quebec.
Opened on December 15, 2007.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with an average off-white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of dry roasted malt with some very light coffee notes. Taste is also dominated by some medium roasted malt notes with some light coffee and a medium bitter finish. Body is a bit thin for the style with some good carbonation. I thought it was well balance dry stout maybe slightly lacking in character.

(fin 2006)

A deep dark stout, with light mahogany hues, and a classy dark moka head. Aroma is malty smoky chocolate with black olives overtones...something may be going wrong here. In mouth, all is OK, a bitter smoky chocolate, with light burn toast lingering in mouth. A bit thin, but overall pleased with this one. Métro Joanette, 1.89$ Rating 3000!
