Lubiere (6979) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - OCT 10, 2007
A yellowish golden ale with a very thin white head, lacking carbonatation. Note the white PVC "cork" on the 750 mL bottle was a pain to remove. A light coriander aroma with light notes of catnip. In mouth, a lightly astringent sweet malt, herbaceous, with a oily mouthfeel. Overall, unbalanced offering. Bought and tasted Oct. 8 2007.

My Bottom Line:
The juicy lime and pineapple fruitiness of this blemished Belgian Golden Ale leads to an incoherent yeasty tartness. There are obvious bottle-conditioning issues here which harm the beer greatly.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-There is barely any head on top of the cloudy pale yellow.
-Carbonation is nearly dead, making the beer feel like a sample from the fermenter.
-A doughy yeast presence is felt, which might have been nicely integrated, but it’s hard to tell with such a lifeless body.
-The fruit pith aroma could have been fun, but in this state appears unripe.

Bottle; first batch.

Bottle courtesy of boutip. Pours a hazy gold with a white head. Smells of corn sugar, dry malt. Tastes bitter and dry with a perfumy finish.

UPDATED: JUL 12, 2010 The look: Cloudy yellow body with a medium white head.
The style: Blonde Belgian-ish Ale
The stuff: Biscuit malts, basic cereals, doughy yeast, a little buttery. Overall impression of a plain donut. Something about the yeast/esters felt a bit lager-ish. Kind of a cross between a Double-Helles and a Belgian Ale. Fruity flavours is limited to some peaches. Some noble hops but not nearly enough to balance the malts. A little flowery. Not very intense at all but I liked it for dinkability. One of the most interesting Au Maitre Brasseur offering. I was lucky enough to catch a good bottle and I enjoyed the beer. Some of the previous ratings are abnormally. These are due to a stability problem that the brewery admitted having. Bottles went from dangerous exploding bombs to totally flat and lifeless. But stability issues is something that can be addressed. For the brewer it was a matter of changing the bottle conditioning. For me it was a matter of proper medication.
The how: Bottle
The conclusion: Smooth and not super-flavourfull but very drinkable.

Doughy and lightly spicy with a citrus and floral character in the yeasty aroma. Slightly oily looking and opaque yellow-golden blonde body is topped by a decent, fine bubbled, white head that sticks to the sides of the glass and lasts well. Plenty of fruit in the flavour - bananas as well as citrus, some doughy yeast character, plenty of malt sweetness and moderate finishing bitterness to complete the journey. Surprisingly dry body with pleasant effervescence that tingles the tongue and cheeks. Tulip glass. Cellar temperature. Bottle (Le Gobelet, Jan-08).

Bottle (341ml). Pours a very bubbly, slightly cloudy yellow-gold with an average size white head. Aroma has that Belgian yeast smell down along with some fruit (banana, citrus & apple), light spices, light hops and some sweetness -- not bad at all. Flavour’s yeasty with light spices, light hops, citrus, some alcohol and an average bitter finish. Average bodied. Not bad, an O.K. version of the style.

(Rating #1224)

Boutip (3451) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - DEC 21, 2007
Bottle: Poured a clear golden bright yellow color ale with a small foamy head with limited retention and no lacing. Aroma of sugar with some malt coming through. Taste is a mix between some cloying sweetness with some light malt. Watery body with some low carbonation. Overall, this was way too sweet or cloying to be really interesting.

Cloudy yellow pour with almost no bubbles. Aroma of lemon and yeast. Flavor of lemon and yeast, there’s a definitely unpleasant something in there. The body is light with an oily texture and moderate carbonation.

Bottle. This is not even close to being 33rd percentile bad. The aroma has a bit of clove, wheat, alcohol, some vegetals. Flavor has a little bit of diacetyl (actually, a good bit of it), with a fairly assertive Belgian yeast. This is certainly nothing special, but is passable as a Belgian Strong at least.
