3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Glouglouburp (4772) - Montreal, - NOV 20, 2007
UPDATED: JAN 24, 2011 In short: An oily, resinous, tasty and rather heavy IPA. Good.
How: Bottle, very fresh (a few weeks after the beer was released)
The look: Cloudy copper orange body with short lived off-white head.
In long: Two IPAs came out at the same time from Maître Brasseur (Paradisiac Cuivrée II and Maîtresse). They are quite similar and drank a few days apart I could believe they are the same beer. Upon closer inspection there are a few subtle differences. Common to both: Oily and sticky caramel with oily and sticky hops essence. A little medicinal touch and a light vegetal note. Rather strong bitterness. Hops have a resinous and tree bark character. I actually enjoyed the resinous, earthy, dirty nature of the beer. Really not the cleanest IPA around. The alcohol is apparent and its warming feeling fits in nicely. This is a tasty beer. Paradisiac Cuivrée II specific: Specially brewed for the Rahman Montreal beer-store. Feeling of spicier/peppery hops (although it’s supposedly coriander and a pinch of cinnamon that is added to the beer). I think I slightly prefer the Maîtresse but only slightly. I was disappointed by a few of Maître Brasseur recent offerings so this one is the best come-back since John Travolta in Pulp Fiction. Here’s hoping that it won’t be followed by a Battlefield-Earth-quality beer anytime soon.

3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Sammy (6113) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JUN 14, 2009
Marche Rahman’s recipes are brewed at this brewery. Mr. Rahman himself did not endorse this one, he told me I may wipe my mouth after, or maybe I’ll like it. I thought it a weak DIPA, a passable regular IPA. Quebec itself, I do not think into DIPAs much. Pours golden with lots of beige foaming head. OK aroma of malt. Medium mouthfeel, even a tad above. Drinkable, though not very. In fact, maybe one of Rahman’s best.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 rasears (4) - CANADA - JUL 29, 2008 does not count
Bottle from Super Marche Raman aka le paradis de la bière. Orange-amber with a light head, low lacing. Strong hop aroma, maybe centennial and northern brewer. Caramel, minty, citrus fruit flavors along with alcohol and spice from coriander, possibly cinnamon, but not so much the yeast. Good stuff...h
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Lubiere (6979) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - JUN 20, 2008
Bottle bought at Rahman, 2.49$. A hazy golden ale with a thick creamy off white head. In aroma, a nice floral hoppy ale with fruity notes, sweet caramel, mango, and tea. In mouth, a sweet I2PA with good sustained floral hops, caramel, notes of cinnamon and pepper. A very interesting and fun offering from Pascal!

Bottle from Super Marche Rahman, Montreal. Very hazy orange-amber with a good sized white head. Nice aroma of orange candy, light caramel, resiny hops - which pretty much describes the flavour as well. Body is full, a bit creamy, nice. Lingering hops in the finish, and a very slight alcohol warmth. A very nice quaff.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 blankboy (4436) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 11, 2008
Bottle. Pours a very bubbly cloudy orange-copper with an average size fizzy off-white head. Mild aroma is pleasantly fruity & hoppy along with caramel malt and a hint of spices. Flavour of resiny pine hops, fruit, caramel malt and a nice long bitter finish. A bit of alcohol in there but in a good way as well as some spices. Medium bodied, well carbonated. Definitely one of Au Maitre-Brasseurs finer efforts, I enjoyed it.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 HogTownHarry (4872) - Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, CANADA - JAN 30, 2008
Bottle (341ml). Via trade with Viper666. Cloudy orange pour, average fizzy diminishing white head (3+). Light apricot sweet roast malt and very pleasing sweet grapefruit/resin hop aroma (7+). The taste is also very pleasing - solid dry resin bitterness, with pine resin, hardwood and black tea riding right over the top of the sweet malt - very long bitter finish, but not quite DIPA in intensity. Fairly thick body, nice astringency with enough carbonation to keep it lively, realy very good, one of the better Canadian attempts at a strong West Coast IPA, falls a little short, but full marks for the effort!
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 rederic (2326) - montréal, Quebec, CANADA - DEC 18, 2007
Slight cloudy amber-orangeish hue, with a white head, yeasty, fruity nose of peaches and apricots, somme toasty, caramelized malts, with a nice spicy coriander note, a mild flowery hop pineyness in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a yeasty, fruity, flowery hop character of candied peaches and apricots, with a sweet toasty graininess,a coriander spiciness, a mild juicy cedary, coniferous accent, leading towards a peachy hop bittering finish.
